The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.
What’s the song that reminds you of the best night you had out with your girls? Or the one that brings the tears as soon as you hear the beat drop? There is no denying the power that music and dance has on our mood. Well did you know it can be useful in therapy too? In honor of Black Music Month, this week we're chatting all about how music and dance impact our mental health. For this conversation I was joined by Jennifer Sterling, a registered Dance & Movement psychotherapist and holistic nutritionist. Jennifer and I chatted about how she uses dance and movement in her work as a therapist, the concerns it can be useful for, and why dance and music are powerful in helping us heal.
I’m also super excited to share a conversation I had with one of my favorite musical artists, Carmen Rodgers, about her experience as an artist and her thoughts on why investing in your mental health is important as an artist.

    Exploring African Traditional Religions

    Exploring African Traditional Religions

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.
Our relationships with religion and spirituality is a long and storied one. As of late, I’ve been seeing more references from sisters exploring African Traditional Religions as a means of reconnecting to parts of our history and wanted to learn more about it. To help us dig a little deeper into this area, today I’m joined by Dr. Dianne Stewart. Dr. Stewart and I chatted about some of the major tenets of African Traditional Religions, some of the common misconceptions, and she shares some of her favorite resources for anyone wanting to learn more.

    Checking In with Michelle Williams

    Checking In with Michelle Williams

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.
You may know Michelle Williams as 1/3 of the superstar group Destiny’s Child, but this week she is embarking on a brand new identity as an author with her brand new book, Checking In. In the past couple of years, Michelle has been more open in sharing about the mental health concerns she’s experienced and she is now using her platform to help others to have these conversations to check in with themselves and others. Michelle and I chatted about the various parts of her identity she’s had to navigate throughout her life, the experience of managing depression while being in the spotlight, and keeping some things for yourself as a public figure.

    Angela Tucker On Transracial Adoptions

    Angela Tucker On Transracial Adoptions

The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves.
As a follow up to our conversation earlier this week about transracial adoption, we wanted to chat with someone who has lived this experience. Angela Tucker is a Black woman who was adopted from foster care to a white family. During our conversation, Angela shared more about her experiences as an adoptee, the challenges she’s had related to identity, the process of reuniting with her biological family, and about the work she does to help other transracial adoptees.
