Birth Tales

028 - Georgie | 2 births, covid, sweep, induction, emergency c-section, NICU, labour ward, VBAC, epidural

In today's episode we're hearing from Georgie about the births of her two sons. Despite struggling with anaemia and being in lockdown for much of it, her first pregnancy was overall very positive, but in the final few weeks after a loss in the family and talk of potentially having to birth without her husband present, Georgie's confidence began to waver. She went into hospital for a check up have had some bleeding and after a discussion with her care providers ended up opting for an induction which turned out to be a lengthy process resulting in a traumatic emergency c-section and a few days in NICU for baby Alexander.

When she fell pregnant a second time, Georgie knew she wanted something different from the birth. She prepared physically by exercising well, having acupuncture and reflexology and whilst she was hoping for a VBAC Georgie was also open to the option of a planned c-section. Her contractions began a few days after her estimated due date and she found her birth to be a far more positive experience this time round. She was even left feeling it had provided some closure and emotional healing from her first birth.
