073 Daniel James: Finding my purpose and transforming my life Pharmacist Diaries

    • Careers

On today's episode I am pleased to introduce Daniel James to the podcast. Daniel graduated from Liverpoorl John Moores University in 2012 and started his career as a community pharmacist. In these first few years, he found himself working well over his contracted 40 hour work week on a regular basis without pay. After two years of this, he took a step back and asked himself "is this really what I want to do for the rest of my life?" A question I am sure many pharmacists ponder as this is a common theme in many pharmacy roles.
At that time, Daniel decided to take a one year sabbatical from his career and went travelling abroad. We hear about his adventures and how he climbed Mount Everest, rode trains all across China, rode a motorbike from North to South Vietnam, and spent time in Tibet and Thailand. He utilised this time to dig deep and find his purpose in life and what he really wanted to do with it. He navigated through a traumatic problem with his eye, social anxiety and a lot of negative feelings. He then immersed himself into self development books and found a mindset coach to help him through the negativity and live his best life.
Our conversation highlights the importance of understanding your purpose in life and making decisions that align with your values, beliefs and identity. He utilised his learning experience to become a certified coach and help others to transform their lives. Currently he is working part time as a locum community pharmacist which gives him the freedom to work the hours that align with his personal life as well as giving him time to work with coaching clients. The best of both worlds and a much happier and fulfilled life to lead...
