This is a podcast about one woman's mission to help entrepreneurs and business owners write and self-publish better business books. Each week, we tackle your writing excuses (because they're our excuses too) – and help you beat the Blank Page Of Doom so you can write a book that makes a real difference. Also contains adulting fails, the adventures of the TinySheeps, and a bundle of fantastic interviews with people far smarter than us. Find us at moxiebooks.co.uk.
Brains are Magical A******s with Jocelyn Brady
Vicky sits down with Jocelyn Brady, Brain Coach and extremely funny wise owl, and asks: why are our brains such magical things? And also a******s? Tune in to find out how our brains lie to us, live action shots of our two brains getting distracted mid-sentence, and why you need to do the things before you die.
The Magic of Tiny Stories
Vicky and Joe talk about tiny tales, things that make Vicky cry, and why Joe ruins stories. Vicky has a rant about big dramatic Hollywood blockbuster-style rags to riches stories (especially the ones exaggerated by the bro marketers of the world) and explains why boring stories are not in fact boring at all, and why they’re the only ones that’ll really change the world. Tune in and find out how you can never run out of stories to tell again.
Podcast Shenanigans with Kristin Quiroz Bayona
For entirely selfish reasons, Vicky interviews the thoroughly lovely Kristin Quiroz Bayona of Explorer In You—and they talk about the absolute joy of podcasting, storytelling, and diversifying the voices we hear. Tune in to find out all about how starting a podcast can help you get more out of your book—and how to get the most out of any interview appearances you might have. Plus a couple of fab book recommendations!
The Joy of Boredom
Vicky explains why you don’t need a flea-ridden blanket to write your book, and nor do you need to go to Turkey. Joe looks on in bewilderment and then makes a really good point about decision fatigue and friction. And there’s a brief rant about lying on the internet. This episode also contains baby goats. Enjoy!
Which Type of Writer are You?
Vicky and Joe are back after a week off the podcast—and they have plenty to say. Much of it about why Joe has been striding manfully around the estate with a saw. But really, it’s all about the writing: and this week they want to know, which type of writer are you? With a big caveat and a little rant about people on the internet who try to fit you in boxes and tell you that you’re wrong if their stuff doesn’t work.
The Truth About Outlines
Are you a structure or a disco person? Rules or anarchy, maaaaaaaan? And what’s all this got to do with outlines anyway? Some say you HAVE to do an outline or what are you even doing? Others say BALLS to outlines, they’re for boring bores. Vicky and Joe? They’d like to share the 9 biggest outline myths—and give you a super-simple, delightfully smart way to structure your writing, even if the idea of structure turns you right off. Sit back and enjoy!
Fabulous Podcast for small business owners, one not to be missed!
It has finally happened, the chickens have been rescued by the FBI hostage negotiators. The dresses have told me their stories and JK Rowling has made millions from her Harry Potter books.
I am left waiting for the next episode of the podcast.
This hasn't happened before, and I am feeling a little lost. What am I going to do now?
Ever since I started listening to your MOST excellent podcasts back in October last year, you, Joe and your many fabulous guests have accompanied me on my travels as I go about my business.
I have listened and in some cases relistened to specific episodes and learned so much. I particularly liked the hostage negotiations series, which have helped me to improve my skills in landing customers over the phone. The "Life Story in Dresses" was another of my absolute favourite episodes. A good story sells, I have no doubt about that now.
Thank you for continuing to produce this podcast, you are helping me grow my business and take it to where I want to go with it.
