We return to part two of Thomas Dolby's 80:10 with production work with two songwriting icons; one massively successful the other less so, plus playing Live Aid with yet another. Plus lots of film work and a technicolour third solo album...
6. PREFAB SPROUT (1985-89)
Producer for Steve McQueen, From Langley Park to Memphis and Jordan: The Comeback (recorded 1989, released in 1990, pedants!)
7. DAVID BOWIE (1985)
Keyboards for Bowie at Live Aid, playing on TVC 15, Modern Love, Rebel Rebel and "Heroes".
8. JONI MITCHELL (1985)
"Producer" for Dog Eat Dog and a definite contrast to his experiences with Paddy and Davy Jones.
9. FILM WORK (1985-87)
Scored Fever Pitch (no, not that one) and did the songs for Howard The Duck (yes, that one) as well as a rather impressive score for Gothic.
10. ALIENS ATE MY BUICK (1988)
The third album. Contains the BEST SONG HE EVER DID (fact!)

A wonderful podcast
It’s very rare to stumble across something as special as 80sography, but I’m glad that I did. The host is knowledgable, funny and has an obvious love of great music. It’s impressive how he gets to talk to so many 80’s icons, puts them at ease, and gets them to reveal so many secrets from the recording process. For anyone that wistfully thinks back to a time of great songwriting and innovation, this podcast is a must.
I would love to hear Hugh Padgham interviewed again to fill in three gaps in his career, following on from earlier excellent 80sography sessions.
1) Abacab - It would be wonderful to hear how Hugh contributed to the album which saw Genesis break from their past. Also, how did great tracks like Paperlate and You Might Recall get left off?
2) Ten Summoner’s Tales - insights on Sting at the height of his powers would be fascinating, particularly given the perfect band he had assembled for that album.
3) Drama - I fear Hugh is too much of a gentleman to recount the dark tales from this Yes album, which would make his recollections all the more fascinating if he were to spill the beans!

Incredible podcast. Really enjoying all the interviews with people I’ve never heard talk before. Asking all those questions about royalties,touring,album credits is really refreshing and love the knowledge of the interviewer. Keep up the funny snippets…. Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the episodes.
