A Conversation with Homeschoolers Educating While Black

    • Self-Improvement

Join me as Roygena Fortman and Tasha Sowells discuss their decision to homeschool their children and how to approach teaching your children from an individualized holistic space.

Tasha is a Registered Nurse, Certified Case Manager, and certified Diabetes Educator. She has a passion for population health management, and thoroughly enjoys the relationships she builds with those she works with. She serves her community as a Certified Diabetes Educator through her independent contracting service Diabetes Management Support Services, LLC (launched in September 2019). Tasha is currently an Instructor at Texas College where she teaches Health. She started her personal  self care journey with Girl Trek in 2015. In 2016 she along with Lashonda Malrey-Horne began to rally other Black women and girls to join the movement. They are now community organizers for Girl Trek in Tyler. Within the last four years they have grown the movement and centered Black Women’s needs in the community.
Roygena graduated from Longview High School as a licensed cosmetologist and has been a certified nurse's aide for 21 years. She graduated from LeTourneau University with a bachelor's degree in education. She's been homeschooling her children for three years. Roygena and her husband, Kayon, are the founders of the Path Blazer Basketball Club in Tyler, Texas. It is a basketball and scholars program where students are supported in their educational endeavors and basketball skills training.  Find out more at www.krpathblazers.com
