A Podcast to the Curious - The M.R. James Podcast

Listening to the podcast has been a joy. Informative, insightful, funny, warm. Great rapport between the hosts and such obvious love for the subject (plus not trying to sell anything!). It’s really deepened my enjoyment of MR James and the genre more widely. My only criticism is that the episodes aren’t frequent enough… The suggestion from other reviews that somehow focusing on female writers in the last few episodes makes the series “woke” is just a load of nonsense.

A wonderful podcast for ghost story fans and James affiliates everywhere. Quite how you can perceive the podcast as ‘woke’ is baffling to say the least 😕

But spoilt by loud sudden unnecessary noises that punctuate the narrative. Doesn’t add anything and kills amy atmosphere. Shame as there’s no rationale for doing it. Lost Hearts was particularly bad. Another issue is the rather nauseating leftist baseless claptrap that is dotted throughout. In episode one it is snidely pointed out that James has a lack of female characters in his stories. Firstly, so what ? It’s completely irrelevant. As long as the story is gripping that’s all that matters. Actually going out of the way to look for these things is just vapid ans tiresome. They do admit in the following episode that in actual fact they were wrong and that James has plenty of female characters anyway. Which is fair enough but the point was irrelevant anyway. However, we next get a comment about racial stereotypes. I appreciate the left see racism in their granola but jeez. These are clearly intelligent people but that doesn’t excuse the pathetic handwringing on display. Lord knows what treats are in later episodes. Not that Ill bother now. So, yeah. Yet another thing tarnished by the stench of university brainwashing.

A wonderful podcast! So engaging, interesting and entertaining. Highly recommended!
