Grit, Grain, and Genies in a Bottle

Grit, Grain, and Genies in a Bottle

On this episode, we stay true to our name. How about a beer aged IN bourbon barrels? Not just any old bourbon barrels, but BOURBON BOURBON barrels! Yeah, we thought so too! This week the fellas crack open a variety of brews from Goose Island's Bourbon County Brand Stout line. Beware though, too many of these and you find yourself rubbing bottles looking for genies. The fellas also tackle the beautiful presentation that is Willett Pot Still Reserve. One of the most beautiful bottles we've seen, but what about the juice? Stay tuned!

    ORIGIN’FEST

    ORIGIN’FEST

The fellas bring you 4 epic sods...episodes...*clears throat*...episode 4 brought you to by...honestly this one is brought to you by drunkenness. Pure wholesome drunkenness. The fellas forgot to align on tonight's bourbon selection...so we did what all great minds do...drink them all. In between hazing golf balls, free pouring Pappy, having 1 person parties, and corona bottle pyramids we managed to talk about bourbon. The lineup included Blue Note Bourbon, Thomas Handy, Old Grand-Dad, Johnny Drum, Eagle Rare....well you get the gist...it was a lot.

    And also...CHEF GETS MARRIED!

On the beer side, we managed to coalesce on the crispy well balanced Oktoberfest from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. We take you on a verbal trip to Munich to partake in the actual Oktoberfest festival... where 18 million participants were yelling PROST!!! While marveling at the mystical beer carrying powers of the beer maidens, we delve into the Marzen style of beer, lager fermentation, and how the beer came to be known as Oktoberfest.

Break out your lederhosen for this journey.

    B93-R10

    B93-R10

The fellas bring you episode 5 with the First Single Barrel Bourbon, the 93 proof Blantons from Buffalo Trace Distillery, and the world-famous quad Rochefort 10, from Rochefort Brewery in association with Rochefort Abbey.

No, this isn’t a bingo game or coordinates to the hidden city of bourbon.  This is about the f’n epic deliciousness of the juice reviewed in this episode.  This bourbon will make you a collector of horses.  I’m not shitting you, with every bottle, you will be the proud owner of a mini Kentucky thoroughbred and an itty bitty jockey to boot.  This stuff is made in arguably the best warehouse, in the best location of arguably the best warehouse, and has been featured in everything including John wick movies!  I mean, the bottle does resemble a grenade so that kind of makes sense.  Also, the guy it was named after was Albert Bacon Blanton...and everyone loves bacon.

Monks eat beer.  There I said it.  Well...rumor has it that they are vegetarians and the beer they made and consumed was used as sustenance...for food!  So, does that make vegetarians alcoholics??  From a perfect beer rating to the chocolatey, fig/plum goodness, and the sugar...the Belgian candy sugar...this beer is one of a kind. Know what secondary fermentation is?  Yeah, well neither did I.  I know what goodness is though...wholesome freaking goodness.

Saddle up.  Let’s go meet the monks.

    The Uncle and the Sea

    The Uncle and the Sea

The Fellas bring you Episode 3 with Uncle Nearest 1884 from Uncle Nearest Distillery, Inc, and the ever so limey SeaQuench Ale from Dogfish Head brewery.

We all have that uncle, right? You know the one that perfects a time-honored filtration process from his ancestors.  Uses that process to teach a preacher how to make whiskey and goes on to become a legend, after the fact, in the spirits world.  Right?  No?  Me either, my uncles made moonshine but hey we can’t win em all.  From congeners to volatile compounds to salted butter pancakes you may need a thesaurus for this episode, but one thing is certain...the bourbon on this episode is as smooth as Tennessee Whiskey.

Imagine if you will...a lime had a threesome with 2 other limes and some sea salt walked in and caught them in the act.  Ok ok, don’t make it weird.  Anyway, that would pretty much be how SeaQuench Ale is made, probably.  From ‘muddin in a tuxedo and recommitting to ‘what it smell like’ to fennel breath savers and black limes (BLACK LIMES MATTER!) this episode is a wild ride.  The rating on this beer swings from anaphylactic shock to super flavorful and you don’t want to miss it.

So enjoy the listen and join us in wishing one of our own, Big Brother Bourbon, a happy 50th birthday!
