Presidents Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandella along with every sports hero in the last 50 years – the radio career of Garry Richardson

This time we go Behind the Scenes with one of the great voices of BBC radio - an award-winning sports journalist, who The Spectator magazine described as ‘one of the best broadcasters in the country - The Poet Laurate of Sport’. Garry’s remarkable career has spanned half a century, making him the longest serving member on Radio 4’s flagship “Today Programme”. In that time he’s reported on 5 Olympics, interviewed all the famous of international sport, including George Best, Denis Law, Tommy Docherty and Muhammed Ali. A great aficionado of comedy, Garry never misses the chance to slip in a quick quip or pass a welcome witty comment – little wonder he’s also a much in demand after dinner speaker who also produced and presented an acclaimed documentary celebrating Sir Ken Dodd.

Doing the Biz

Great to hear background stories of some of Britain’s most loved stars. For me, it is fascinating to hear of the hours of sweat, hard work, talent and dedication from everyone that goes into providing entertainment to the general public.
However, one gripe , please improve the sound quality for the interviewees.

What a wonderful life

I could listen to Colin and Mark chatting away until there was nothing more they could find to say. Which given the life Edmonds senior appears to have led I hope and suspect is some way off.
Keep ‘em coming Colin. Absolutely loving it.
John.
