Bonus Episode: Women in Fitness and Wellness Industries with Dawn Lister, Daniel Groom and Jane Wake From The Heart, a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, Healing and Wellbeing

    • Mental Health

In this very special yet poignant bonus episode, in conversation with Jane Wake, one of Dawn's early influences in the wellbeing world, we discuss the topical events surrounding women in the fitness and wellness industries, body image and perceptions surrounding women within fitness.  We discuss why female fitness and wellness professionals should receive greater respect for the important work they do, ask why yoga studios are being treated differently to gyms, what it has been like to adapt during the pandemic and how we have used our skillset to support our community, all the while being jeered at by Boris Johnson and his fellow parliamentarians.  Our conversation includes the dialogue arising around women's safety, in light of the murder of Sarah Everard, our right to protest and the importance of being heard, personally and as a community. We hope this episode encourages more awareness and stimulates the conversations needed for real change to occur.

Top fitness professional Jane Wake is one of the most highly qualified, inspirational and respected talents in the fitness arena. Voted No.1 fitness expert by The Independent in 2003, she is now the most recognised fitness expert in the UK, appearing regularly on TV programmes such as the Lorraine Show, ITV1 as a Presenter and Expert Guest.  Jane has been running her own Health & Fitness consultancy, Body A-Wake, since 1993. With a background in sports science, Pilates, pre/postnatal exercise and personal training spanning over 30 years, there isn’t much Jane doesn’t know about when it comes to fitness. She has created numerous innovative exercise brands, including her own programmes Pilates Flow and most recently the Powerful Pregnancy which is currently available for free on her Youtube Channel.

Jane wholeheartedly believes moving, whether it be to move the muscles in your face that make you smile or the ones in your bottom that power you to run and walk - is an aid to boost our health and happiness.  We were delighted to be able to discuss these important topics with her.
