Charaka Goonatilak - CTO at Panaseer - Let's Talk Leadership Let's Talk Leadership Podcast

    • Management

On this week's 'Let's Talk Leadership' podcast, Elly is joined by Charaka Goonatilake, CTO at Panaseer. Charaka studied computer science, spent time in academia, and then moved into software development. His exciting time working with cybersecurity led him and his co-founders to start Panaseer. Starting as a team of 4 with @Mike MacIntyre, @Sophie Harrison and @Nik Whitfield in Nik’s basement, 6 years later Panaseer employs 60 people across UK and USA.

Charaka loves the evolution and challenge that comes with working in a start-up. No two days are the same and he is fully motivated by the challenge and stretching himself and his teams. He shares some advice for moving into the commercial world: be ready for a learning curve and think about the impact of what you are doing but remember you have transferable skills!

He has some really interesting insights about attracting the right people to work for him and Panaseer have done loads of work on their hiring process as the first impression of a start-up is so important. The company is really big on investing in the team, growing their capacity and capabilities, and ensuring their teams can bring their whole and best self to work.

Elly and Charaka also chat about managing stress and pressure. Especially, how vital it is that you look after yourself, understand you’ll never be able to do everything, and the ability to delegate. Charaka and his team went on a 3-day retreat to practice being aware of your thoughts and feelings, and the power of perspective on your mindset.  This is a really interesting and inspiring listen, we hope you enjoy it!
