Award winning podcast* 🥈. Talking about life as a British born Chinese (BBC)/British Asian. The struggles that I've had to deal with whilst growing up in my mum and dad's takeaway in the 1980s/1990s. My parents are immigrants from HK/China and moved to the UK when they were teenagers. I was brought up being Chinese at home and English when I was outside of home - it felt confusing at the time as I couldn't find a sense of belonging. But now I am much older, I am proud of my Chinese heritage and I am proud to be British. I just want to share my story with people.* Silver award at British Podcast Awards 2022 in 'Moment of the Year' category.

S4 Ep1: Food and restaurant writer/editor David Jay Paw

S4 Ep1: Food and restaurant writer/editor David Jay Paw

I chat with David Jay Paw who is a food and restaurant writer/editor. We talk mostly on food. Heading straight in to his role at Resy and collaborating with some amazing people such as Amanda Nguyen and Susie Bubble who have written articles to share their stories on food and restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, we have a conversation on Somsaa and Ivy Asia, how they misrepresented ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) food and the work that David did to call this out. My favourite part of the show is talking about David's dad who is in a band back in the 80's in Burma called The Wild Ones (check them out on YouTube). If you're listening don't forget to share the show with your friends.

S3 Ep3: Being half white and half Filipino in UK

On this episode, I speak with Ray Roberts who is a Filipino-British Filmmaker & Photographer, based in East London. We get personal on this episode as Ray shares his stories of his upbringing on how he suffered from racism at school. We also lighten up the mood as he tells us his upcoming projects that he is working on - all of which amplifies ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) voices and celebrates ESEA culture. S3 Ep2: Chinese takeaway/restaurant kids - this one's for you!

    S3 Ep2: Chinese takeaway/restaurant kids - this one's for you!

I know I always say on all my shows 'this is a very special episode'.  But this time, I REALLY mean it!  It's special for a few reasons:
    * It was my first live show with an audience
    * People paid £14.06 for a ticket (thanks guys)
    * Proceeds were donated to London Chinese Community Centre and the event raised just over £2K.
    * Two amazing guests, John Li from Dumpling Shack and food writer and Takeaway book author Angela Hui shared a stage with me.
    * There were raffle prizes (is it even an event if there's no raffle prizes?  Asking for a friend, LOL).

Angela, John and I have all been brought up in our parents Chinese takeaway/restaurant and we share stories from behind the counter.  It was heartwarming and personally for me, it felt like therapy.  If only I knew there were more takeaway kids when I was growing up!!

This event is part of ESEAHM (East and Southeast Asian Heritage Month).  Thanks to Besean for hosting this for the 2nd year running.

S3 Ep1: Does my fiancé eWan have yellow fever?

S3 Ep1: Does my fiancé eWan have yellow fever?

Hey!!  I'm back with a new season.  In this episode I speak to my fiancé eWan Smith as we  talk about how we met, the adventures that we've had and we probably over share when we talk about the mini break up that we had a few years ago.  I also asked him if he has yellow fever (spoiler alert, he doesn't) but it did boost a conversation on how yellow fever is dangerous on ESEA women.

You can find both eWan and I are on Instagram:

S2 Ep9: Disney and Pixar's Turning Red interview with the Director and Producer

This is a special episode to promote the latest Pixar animation of Turning Red - releasing on Disney+ from 11 March 2022.  Wanna know more about Turning Red - give this a listen 🎧 and then watch the animated film 🍿

I was so excited to be given the opportunity to interview Domee Shi who is the Director and Lindsey Collins who is the Producer.  A short and snappy interview.  But it was great to chat to them.

Video interview is also available on my insta page - Chinese Chippy Girl.

Angela1249 ,

One of my favourite podcasts

Really love this podcast. I’ve learnt so much from it and it’s given me a feeling of connection hearing the stories of so many wonderful ESEA guests. As a BBC I’m so grateful that pods like this exist, thank you! Georgie is a wonderful host - so authentically herself and personable!

A great listen & insight into British ESEA culture

Such a great podcast about British ESEA culture with a super warm friendly host. I loved the live episode about takeaway kids, the interview with a lion dancer, the personal episodes and all the rest! Georgie has a lovely voice and has great genuine chats with whoever she's interviewing. Would listen to Georgie chat about anything!!

Relatable, connecting, warm

Chinesechippygirl is one of my favourite podcasts. I listen to every episode as soon as it comes out. As a British Born Chinese I find Georgie’s experiences very relatable, all the highs and lows of growing up and being Asian in the UK. I love hearing snippets of Cantonese in the podcast as I never get the chance to speak much anymore. Georgie as a host is so warm and inviting, I feel like I know her in real life even though I’ve never met her. If I ever did meet her I think we would get along! All her guests are super interesting, I end up following them all on Instagram and it’s opened my eyes - honestly I never realised there was such a huge ESEA community out there. It helps me connect with my heritage more and makes me proud to be Chinese!
