Using Technology to Engage Students with Learning Disabilities
Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar with special guest presenter, Billy Krakower, February 20, 2016. We are thrilled to have Billy Krakower joining us in this webinar to share some great tips on ways to harness the power of technology to improve learning and engagement for students who have learning disabilities. This is the focus of his new book ”Using Technology to Engage Students with Learning Disabilities" which he co-authored with Sharon Plante(@iplante). The format of this webinar will be a little different. Instead of a presentation it will be conducted as an interview with Paula Naugle facilitating the session. We are excited to learn about teaching tools and strategies they recommend for students with learning disabilities, including gifted students. We’ll be asking about using assistive technology to teach core subjects and study skills, recommendations for tools that provide better content accessibility and ways to help student connect and share through tech tools among many other things. This will be a perfect opportunity for you to join us to ask your questions about working with students who have learning disabilities. The Livebinder will have tons of excellent resources!
Billy Krakower (@wkrakower), is a full-time teacher at Woodland Park Public Schools in Woodland Park, New Jersey, where he has taught computers and special education to grades 3 and 4 for over eight years. He is the Chief Financial & Event Officer for Evolving Educators, LLC (evolvingeducators.com). Billy co-moderates two weekly Twitter chats, #NJed chat and #satchat (for educational leaders). He co-hosts “SatChat Radio,” a weekly show interviewing educators on BAM Radio Network and available on iTunes. Billy is one of the lead organizers of edcampNJ and edcampLeadership North NJ. Billy is a 2014 ASCD Emerging Leader, and a member of the NJASCD Executive board and serves as the Technology Committee Chair.

We are very excited to have the always inspiring Sydney Sheren returning to Classroom 2.0 LIVE to share her technology passions. Her presentation: "Small Talk about Small Tech" revolves around some of the best technology products and applications for the classroom including virtual reality, Google Cardboard, 3D printing, Pocket and Wacom tablets. Get ready to sit down, relax, drink some tea, and have a nice conversation about some great tech products and how you can get your students more engaged by using them in your classroom.
Sydney is a 10th grade student and currently the Sophomore class President at Westhampton Beach high school. She created and continues to supervise and edit the middle school's newsletter. Her interests in technology led her to be a Keynote speaker at the Student Technology Conference and at the Suffolk ASSET Conference in front of 800 teachers and educators last year. My passion for film-making has led her to screen one of her movies at the local movie theater and to attend the New York Film Academy for two summers. This past summer, she attended a program on Leadership and Global Engagement at the Leadership Institute at Brown University. She is inspired to teach others why technology is helpful and how they can easily use it to learn in a quick, easy, fun way.

Newbies and veterans alike will get some great take-aways as we tour through Moodle 2.9 and take a look at all the tools and time-savers for teachers and great support for students built right in.
Learn how you can create computer-scored quizzes with custom feedback per answer, hints with penalties, and the ability to allow the student to replace a question after the attempt and feedback with another question of the same type. Have it all go to your grade book automatically.
If you are interested in flipped or at your own pace learning, we will talk about how you can optimize your course design in Moodle to make it easier for students, parents, and teachers to track student progress.

7th Anniversary Celebration and Open Mic PD

We are energized and excited to return after our winter break with our annual Anniversary Celebration. In our first webinar of the New Year we will be celebrating our 7th Anniversary on Classroom 2.0 LIVE as well as holding an Open Mic show on a topic all of us feel passionate about—professional development! We chose this topic because we felt it was broad enough to include everyone whether you participate in PD either f2f or virtually or offer PD opportunities. (conferences-f2f & virtual, EdCamps, webinars, videos/blog posts, etc.) Join us, take the mic and share your PD experiences, resources and advice about what works... what doesn't... what are some options, etc. Come with your ideas, resources, and questions. Paula Naugle will facilitate the conversation and we hope you'll come prepared to share something with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We'll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with professional development resources and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder.
We are looking forward to celebrating our Anniversary and to taking a few minutes at the beginning of the show to recognize our amazing 2015 special guest presenters, participants and Advisory Team members with a quick trip down memory lane with a few special memories all the way back to 2009!
