F1 News From The Nerds - Silly Season Special!

F1 News From The Nerds - Silly Season Special!

Each week we bring you the Top 5 news stories from the past week.. This week is a bit different, however... With all the big news coming from the silliest of silly seasons in the last couple of days, James, Sam, Abby and Catherine do a driver contract special episode. These revolve around:

Alonso's shock move to Aston Martin
On Monday, Fernando Alonso shocked the F1 paddock with an out-of-the-blue move from Alpine to Aston Martin, which was apparently the first the French team had heard of it...
    https://www.formulanerds.com/news/breaking-fernando-alonso-signed-to-aston-martin/

Piastri rejecting Alpine's announcement he would be driving for them
A couple of hours after Alpine had announced reserve driver and academy star Oscar Piastri would be driving for them in 2023, the Australian youngster came out and denied that was the case, definitively saying he would not be racing for Alpine next year.
    https://www.formulanerds.com/news/breaking-piastri-denies-alpine-drive-for-2023/

    Ricciardo's uncertain future
Piastri's bombshell has left the 2023 grid looking very uncertain, particularly for the underperforming Daniel Ricciardo, with his younger compatriot believed to be aiming for his McLaren seat.
    https://www.formulanerds.com/news/piastri-drama-opens-the-door-for-ricciardo/

    Albon's new deal with Williams
And a bit of breaking news just at the start of the podcast, with Williams announcing a new multi-year contract for Alexander Albon.

    Round 13 - F1 Hungarian GP Race Review 2022

    Round 13 - F1 Hungarian GP Race Review 2022

This week on the Cut to the Race Podcast, Oli is joined by Dalila and Sam, as the trio review, dissect and analyse the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix and its surrounding events.
This episode is brought to you by EightSleep, the Official Supplier of the Mercedes AMG F1 Team
Ready for better sleep? Eight Sleep users fall asleep up to 32% faster, reduce sleep interruptions by 40%, and get overall more restful sleep. Replace your mattress or just add the Pod technology to your existing mattress. In the show, the panel covers:
The retirement of a much-loved legend of the sport. They discuss his career and advocacy, as well as looking back on how he came to be the icon he is today.
Dalila and Sam share stories from their weekend’s trackside, with Dalila covering W Series in Hungary and Sam at the London E-Prix.
What will surely become one of the classic drives of Max Verstappen’s career, as he spins and wins in style. Was this the Dutchman’s best drive yet?
The continued slow implosion at their title rivals, who are looking more and more like finishing third in a two-horse race. Together, the team discuss whether Binotto is a dead man walking or if he’s the right man for the job at Maranello.
An extended anthem review, with a look ahead to the always popular Italian national anthem when F1 gets to Monza in September.
The clash of Alpines, with Alonso shocked at his teammates driving standards. Was the writing on the wall for the hot-headed Spaniard and his French team?
Are Mercedes back, or was Hungary another false dawn? A difficult Friday made way for a triumphant Saturday for Mr Saturday and a remarkable recovery drive from Lewis Hamilton on Sunday.
The awful behaviour of some fans at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and what the sports needs to do about it to stamp out abusive and unacceptable actions.
And finally, how the podcasters can keep themselves busy during the summer break with no races to review.

    F1 News From The Nerds - 27th July 22

Welcome to News from the Nerds, the midweek news show by the FormulaNerds news team – Your essential F1 weekly news digest. Each week we bring you the Top 5 news stories from the past week.
In today's podcast, Sam and Abby get together with James and Catherine to discuss the latest news surrounding the motorsport world, mostly Formula One.
They kick off the podcast with a quick round-up of the events surrounding Ferrari and Sergio Perez in the French Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc took full responsibility for his crash which caused him a potential win, while Carlos Sainz insisted that the team is not “a disaster,” despite some controversial calls they’ve been making. Meanwhile, the Mexican blames the Virtual Safety Car for not putting his Red Bull on the podium.
You can read more on this on:

    https://www.formulanerds.com/news/sainz-on-french-gp-we-are-not-a-disaster/

On another note, they took a look at sustainability in Formula 1, and so the discussion had to be topped off with Formula E which heads into Rounds 13 and 14 in London this weekend. They spoke about the future of the electric championship and what potential Formula One drivers can join in too, while having a look at Nyck De Vries, who seemed to found his feet in the all-electric series.
Speaking of Nyck De Vries, who makes part of the Williams Drivers Academy, the Nerds took a look at possible prospects that can join the Oxford-based team for 2023 as Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon edge the end of their contract in 2022.

And while they touched on new beginnings, they also looked at the potential end of the F1 journey for drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren, Sebastian Vettel with Aston Martin, and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
The discussion does not stop at the podcast, you can also get more insight into why these drivers might leave the sport soon on:

This week, Oli is joined by Abby and Catherine to discuss the potentially last French Grand Prix.
The trio discuss Ferrari, who looked to have a strong weekend but was all ruined by Charles Leclerc’s crash. They discuss who was truly at fault, Mattia Binotto’s team or the 24-year-old’s? They also point out the strategists’ confusion which caused Carlos Sainz a podium finish after he made a spectacular comeback from the back of the grid.
They go on to compare the Lewis vs Max rivalry to that compared to Max vs Charles this year. Mercedes are not at the top of their game but they seem to be turning up the heat on Ferrari and Red Bull, especially after a double podium finish thanks to Lewis Hamilton and George Russell with a slight push from Toto Wolff.
Finally, what happened to Sergio Perez this weekend, was the team to blame for his finishing position? And how about Daniel Ricciardo? Is he demanding too much from McLaren, who seem to have been working just fine with youngster Lando Norris?
