UK metal festival promoters Gavin McInally and Vicky Hungerford go head-to-head to discuss the trials and tribulations of organising Damnation and Bloodstock. Ridiculous riders, annoying agents and testing tour managers, nothing is off the table.

    Best of British

    Best of British

Memoriam, Venom Prison, Napalm Death, Onslaught, Party Cannon, Dvne, Paradise Lost, Raging Speedhorn, Svalbard, Conjurer, Evile, Wode, Orange Goblin, The Wildhearts... as the touring industry slowly tries to get back to its feet, UK bands have never been more in demand as Bloodstock and Damnation rebuild line-ups they are confident will make it to the stage this August and November.

But who is available? Who has been tied up elsewhere? What UK bands fit the bill and is there such a thing as being too "too green" to get a slot?

Gav and Vicky discuss the changes - major, subtle and unexpected - that booking a best of British line-up has thrown up.

    The Vaccine Race

    The Vaccine Race

The vaccine rollout is in full swing and now it's a race against the clock for promoters, agents and ultimately the bands to see what plans for 2021 can be salvaged.

Bloodstock has dealt with a major reshuffle of American acts as European tours collapsed and Damnation's final announcement - featuring several international bands - had to be scrapped and replaced days before it was due to be announced.

But why are Vio-lence still on the BOA poster after losing all the other Americans?

How did Bloodstock hold onto Judas Priest against the odds?

And was Vicky really cheeky enough to try to book Pupil Slicer after being recommended them on the podcast?

Damnation vs Bloodstock is back with a bang.

    Elitism Vs Realism

    Elitism Vs Realism

"Bryan from Leeds doesn't like Parkway Drive guys, we're going to need to have a look at this..."

The difficulties of promoting successful events to fans who are determined to have their favourite old school death metal, or obscure power metal band headline.

Why don't Immolation, Suffocation or Incantation headline Damnation?
Why can't Evile replace Mercyful Fate?
What impact does constant negative trolling have on promoters and the bands themselves?
And how quickly would Damnation and Bloodstock collapse if Gav and Vicky didn't separate elitism from realism?

    Tune in and get involved.

How (Not) to Start a Metal Festival

How (Not) to Start a Metal Festival

Alt Fest, Ghost Fest, Temples, Northern Darkness, Heavy Scotland, Ritual... the bodies of fallen festivals are strewn across the UK and Damnation and Bloodstock could easily have joined them in the history books.

Gav and Vicky discuss some of the steep, harsh and very costly lessons learned over the years as they've gone from handing out black and white flyers at metal markets and tattoo conventions to sold out events.

They also shine a spotlight on two new UK bands they feel deserve some attention in the weekly head-to-head 'who has the better taste' tit-for tat.

    Kreator for Mercyful Fate

    Kreator for Mercyful Fate

BoJo has spoken and festivals WILL happen in 2021 but that's only hurdle one as Bloodstock soon found out with several bands, including headliner Mercyful Fate, being forced to postpone their performance again.

All the smart money was on Vicky going British. Would it be Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Bullet For My Valentine...? No, it was German thrash legends Kreator.

Find out how that booking came to be and the plans for the rest of the bill in episode one of Damnation Vs Bloodstock.

Also, Gav pitches one band recommendation against Vicky's to see if he does, in fact, have the superior taste in music.

    Tune in and get involved.
