This week we continue our coverage of Age of X by reading X-Men Legacy #246, a comic that is so memorable I don't even need to think about it in order to write this description. It just all comes naturally. Legion is there! Probably.

OK Fine I'll Do It ,

Got me into X-Men

These are two good boys talking about X-Men. I actually didn't know anything about X-Men other than the early 2000s movies when I started, but listening to them discuss the X-Men animated series and describe how surreal and weird it gets made me start watching along, and I discovered that I love X-Men. After the X-Men animated series, they went onto the hilariously bad Avengers: United They Stand, the kind-of-OK Incredible Hulk cartoon, and then X-Men: Evolution, a television show so bad that they changed the format.

From the end of 2019 onwards they started focusing on the comics. I had never read a comic book before, but I was along for the ride and subscribed to Marvel Unlimited so I could read Grant Morrison's New X-Men and continue listening to the show. The podcast is a very good companion piece to the comics, and I really appreciated Gary and Jeremy's insights, explaining the significance of things I didn't even notice when I originally read the comics, and explaining what the heck happens at the end of the run. It turns out Grant Morrison may not be the best first comic writer to read if you've never read comics before and find them hard to follow, but it was very enjoyable.

Currently they are going through the Age of Apocalypse event from the 90s, and it's pretty wild. They're really good at appreciating the source material while being very funny and dragging it quite a bit. Another thing I find important when getting into nerd fandom stuff is that the Duckfeed fellows strive to make their community a welcoming one, and so I appreciate that I can listen to this podcast and not worry that someone is going to casually use slurs or whine about there being too much diversity.

Can't Get Enough

The thing that makes podcasts great for me is the personality of the hosts and these guys are a couple of the best boys you could hope for. I'm not super into comics, Marvel or X-Men but I could listen to Gary and Jeremy talk about them for hours... and have done. The recent format change from movies/tv shows/animated series to Comics has re-invigorated the boys with enthusiasm for the media they clearly adore.
The boys are knowledgable and passionate but above all, they have enough love for the source material to be comfortable being critical of it. They don't treat it as precious or above reproach which is refreshing as many people seem to think any criticism is a complete condemnation of the entire subject.
Listen to this podcast for the on-topic and off-topic chat alike. It's great company whatever you're doing.
