    This series is called “The Train at Platform Five” an oral history of Kings Cross rail workers.

    A team of researchers interviewed 25 people who worked at this busy London railway terminal to document what life was like working at the station for drivers, guards, pantry boys, station staff and more.

    In this third and final episode, we explore the joys and pain of the work; the pay and conditions; the role of the union and the impact of privatisation on the work.

There are descriptions of the station and neighbourhood in those years. We also look at the ease of getting work at the station but also the difficulties some faced.
