Duo's Story: From Graphic Logo to Social Media Sensation Creator Economy Live

    • Marketing

In this episode, we’re joined by one of the most influential social media managers of the last decade, the brains behind Duo (aka the Duolingo owl) Zaria Parvez. We discuss Zaria’s journey with Duolingo and how she has propelled a language-learning app to be one of the most lauded brands on social media by leaning into humor, keeping up with trending topics, and leveraging social trends. PLUS; YouTube makes moves to take a larger share of the social commerce market, TikTok unveils OOH ad solutions for brands, and social media predictions for 2024.

🐄 Our Creators Of the Week (COW):

Emily Graslie – the brains behind ‘The Brain Scoop’ on YouTube. Graslie launched the channel while working at the Field Museum in Chicago but it’s been dormant since she left in 2020. 3 years later Graslie asked to take the account back over as sole operator and was awarded ownership and IP of the channel.

Tosh – Host of comedy central show Daniel Tosh is the latest celeb to launch a podcast... but with a twist. Instead of focusing on fame or status, Tosh’s guests are ‘random’ people in his life who he finds funny or interesting (eg his wife’s gynaecologist).

👏 Our Brands Of the Week (BOW)

Stanley – the drinkware and gear company went viral after a TikTok user posted a video of the aftermath of a car fire... where the only thing left intact was her Stanley mug. The company responded by offering to send her not only more Stanley merch but also replace her car on behalf of the brand.

GTA – the trailer for the latest game in the popular franchise dominated the internet and is currently the second-best-selling video game of all time.
