An enjoyable and entertaining pastiche of a strangely familiar format. You couldn’t have picked a better guest for the opening episode than Mr Cluley, beaming in from his plush, prodigious Podcast Pleasure Palace. At least, not at the same price. However, I feel compelled to comment on a couple of points. Firstly, whilst up there with the nonsense of Donna Summer’s ‘MacArthur Park’, the lyrics of ‘The Reflex’ do at least have alternative earwormish words in the shape of the children’s poem that goes “The elephant is a dainty bird, it flits from bough to bough. It nestles in a rhubarb tree, and whistles like a cow.” Secondly, I’d suggest swapping “Marina, Morris Marina” for one of Barry Gray’s lesser known numbers “Parker well done” (available on YouTube). Perhaps Graham, who does a fine Parker impersonation, can be encouraged to record a duet with his Smashin(g) Security co-host, Lady Theriault for the purposes of entertaining Il Divo?
