This week’s edition of On Location comes to you from
Washington and California.  Today, Veronica Riley (Veronica Riley Training & Consulting; California) has a
conversation with Renee Smith (Founder and CEO of A Human Workplace; Washington).  Get to know Renee and learn about her unwavering advocacy for love in the workplace.  Listen as they discuss what led Renee to this
work, and how to make work more human.

Renée Smith, MSOD (she/her) is the founder and CEO of A Human Workplace, where she makes the business case for love as a speaker, researcher, and writer, and she leads a team of 30 affiliates in the US and the UK who guide clients in how to operationalize love in practice. She is also the co-founder of the Center for a Loving Workplace, a membership organization that supports change-makers to put love at the center of work through social support, training, demonstration projects, research, and advocacy. Renée served in the Governor’s Office as Director of Workplace Transformation for the State of Washington and led award-winning culture change work.

Smith has spoken to hundreds of audiences in ten countries for organizations in IT, Healthcare, Education, Government, Military, Manufacturing, Construction and Engineering, Law, Social Services, and more. She hosts the podcast "To Work: With Love" on the Gut+Science
leadership podcast, is a prolific blogger and author. She is proud of their cultural work with many organizations and especially the relationship-building work between district leaders and union leaders that averted strikes in two
different school districts.

She earned a Master of Science in Organization Development from Pepperdine University and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of Washington. She loves living in Tacoma with her husband, Jim, and when she isn’t traveling to foreign cities, she enjoys sculling on the Puget Sound, drawing with oil pastels, concocting craft cocktails for friends, and hosting "Grandma Camp".
