Ep 043: Pros & Cons of contributing a chapter to an 'inspirational stories' book The Authority Show

    • Entrepreneurship

So this fabulous person you know in the entrepreneurial space is putting together a book of inspiring stories and *gasp* they’ve asked you to contribute. Before you break out a bottle of bubbly to celebrate this amazing opportunity to become a published author, we need to have a chat.
I know it seems like a really great marketing plan to be a part of a book like this, because it will get your name out there and give you the publicity you’ve been looking for.
But when you break it all down, it could actually end up being a waste of time, energy, and money simply because the outcome won’t end up like you’re expecting.
I talk about this subject on my Instagram all the time, but to be clear, when I say ‘talk’ I really mean I get quite ranty. But that’s only because I am very passionate about making sure your hard work pays off in the end.
Survey says: in this case, it won’t.
On this episode of The AUTHORity Show, I’m talking all about why I think contributing to someone else’s book isn’t what you think it will be. I thought it might be more productive to share my thoughts in a less-ranty, more moderated way so you fully understand why I think there are better ways to share your story.
If contributing to someone else’s book is something you’ve been considering, I highly recommend tuning into this episode.
Of course I’d love to hear what you think about it all, so swing by my Instagram @jessicakillingley and let me know what you think.
And if you disagree with my thoughts, I love to be proved wrong. Let me know why you think this is actually a brilliant marketing plan — just maybe you’ll be able to convince me.

Here are the highlights:

{1:51} A massive, massive, massive waste of time

{3:57} Calling yourself a published author without doing the work

{6:30} It is basically the same as buying ad space

{7:57} Inspiration stories belong on Instagram

{9:55} It's easy to be a best-seller with 20 contributors

{12:43} Have you had a positive experience?
