Episode 16: Chris Grant – Sport England The Drive Phase Podcast

    • Entrepreneurship

Sport has always been a massive part of Chris’ life. Ever since he was young, the crowd had been more important than what was happening on the field. Sports, like movie productions and politics, is not immune to racial and gender bias, among others. Even to this day, despite the raised awareness against these biases, both local and international, there are still unwritten rules that athletes and the whole sports community have to push back against.

Chris grew up with parents who wanted to expand his education through sports. Along with his work experience within the local and international arena of sport. He has during these experiences learned to appreciate the inter-community between sports and the dynamics that work within teams. He believes that the core competence of leadership is self-awareness. Without it, chaos is inevitable, and compromises are difficult to reach.

What you’ll find out in this week’s episode:

How Chris grew up valuing education and sports How he played water polo and basketball How social justice and equality is possible through sports How he got involved student politics How players have become more diverse in sport The Olympics and Paralympic systems The impact of community groups in sports How it feels to only be the fifth black board member at Sport England in forty years What self-care and awareness means to him …and much more.
