Ep.31 | Jenni Roditi, composer, vocal improviser & workshop leader VOCE Dialogues: Voices of Conscious Emergence

    • Religion & Spirituality

Chloë Goodchild in conversation with composer, vocal improviser & workshop leader, Jenni Roditi, discussing compassion, music, voice, improvisation, composition, and much more.

The VOCE Dialogues offer a simple, accessible in-depth ground for poets, authors, musicians, visual artists, and visionary teachers to share and disseminate their insights about the transformative practice of contemplative, creative and compassionate communication.

Jenni Roditi is a composer in the avant-garde, minimalist, world, and free improvisation-influenced styles and has recently also become deeply connected to her Sephardic blood roots as a vocal improviser. She feels now she is really making work that is in post-style style. Her output as a composer includes two full length chamber operas, both performed by the Lontano Ensemble: The Descent of Inanna (1992) and Siddhartha, Spirit Child (2001). Both operas employ singers from many vocal traditions, not only operatic.

In 2012 Jenni founded Vocal Tai Chi – a ‘voice unclassified’ workshop for creative expression, therapeutic and spiritual healing. Vocal Tai Chi is “moving voice between heaven and earth”.

In 2015 she founded The Improvisers’ Choir. Jenni conducts the improvisers using special hand signals.

All her work takes sustenance from the spiritual teachings of her root Lama Drubje Chime Rinpoche. Her other teachers (through her studies) include Trungpa Rinpcohe, Pema Chodren, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Richard Moss, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra and Wendell Henckel.
