According to the Law Society’s 2020 Annual Statistics Report of the average 23,000 people that held a law degree between 2011-2019, only 5,000 secured a training contract (AllAboutLaw). Whilst here at LegalTea we’ve discussed the plenty of other career paths law graduates take, it does show the competitiveness of obtaining a legal training contract.
So to help us explain the movements and the competitiveness of the legal market, we decided to call an expert in. This week we’ll be sitting down with Tom Caplan, Managing Director at Hatton Search, a legal recruitment agency procuring for positions across the entire legal market. In the episode we discuss the value of talking to a legal recruiter, debunking the transactional relationship to legal recruitment, and the state of the legal market in a post-COVID world. 
Outside the market, we discuss Tom’s personal career journey, transitioning out of private practice and into the recruitment game, the skills that make a good legal recruiter, and his highlight moment on the job.
