Ep273 - Analysis Paralysis | #TurkishGP Purple Sector: F1 Podcast

    • Sport

Things got greasy again in Turkey! Foul weather has been on the menu for several weeks now. Ever since the heavens poured down on Spa a few weeks ago, there has been many a wet session and race in F1 and the trend continued this weekend in Turkey. Michael Masi and his boys may have "water blasted" this track to improve the surface grip but it still made for an interesting weekend of tire decisions! Red Bull got things started with a very good looking special livery as a tribute to Honda. Elsewhere, the medical car has a bad case of COVID because both Dr. Ian Roberts and Alan Van Der Merwe were missing this weekend after positive COVID test results. Come Saturday's practice sessions, it wasn't just the track that was wet at times, but also Kimi Raikkonen's boots! Kimi had yet ANOTHER issue with his drink system in the car, you can basically set your watch to that happening at this point. Engine penalties galore again! Carlos Sainz announced early that he would be taking an entirely new power unit so he would start from the back of the grid. From there, Lewis Hamilton joined him by replacing his internal combustion engine for a 10 place grid penalty, so things were looking to get very spicy for race day. Big surprises came even before then however with a wild qualifying session that saw an unlikely Q1 exit for Daniel Ricciardo! The bigger shock was Mick Schumacher dragging that god awful Haas car into Q2 for the first time this year! Mercedes looked unstoppable with their straightline speed and they finished a predictable 1-2 in qualys. Fernando Alonso had his best Saturday in 7 years as he started P5 in the race. Everyone's alarm clock went off on Sunday morning and they immediately saw that the track was greasy and wet! Once the five lights went out, it was a battle against the track, the tires, and at times the drivers. We saw some decent battling on track including an epic 4-5 corner scrum between Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez, and also some odd decision making by Mercedes and Lewis, and also Esteban Ocon doing the first "no stopper" race in 20+ years! We talk everything from team radio, to the trophies, to recapping our bold predictions for the race! Join us on Purple Sector as we cover all the crazy, greasy, wet action from this year's Turkish Grand Prix!
