Episode 4.9: The FAIREST Police Promotion Process
What's the FAIREST police promotion process of the land? Interviews? Applications? Job performance? Inspired by commentary on police promotion processes recently by the Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police, I discuss the zeitgeist of police promotion processes. In this FREE episode (open first to subscribers), I'll cover some common issues and discuss what it means for you as an aspiring police leader.
Promotion processes are topical at the moment (plus ca change!), in light of the recent Police Federation report on pay and morale (including perspectives on promotion and CPD), along with NPPF to SIPP changes on the horizon. Episode 4.7: Australia - A Fresh Start? (FREE)
Officers moving to Australia: It's the talk of the town at the moment in policing. Both in terms of how disgruntled cops are handing in their warrant cards in droves, while Australian police forces are capitalising on the opportunity to poach good officers with a move overseas.
So in this FREE episode (open first to subscribers) of Season 4, it's timely I cover this issue, because Australian forces are currently hosting engagement sessions around the country to try and entice UK officers and their families. Episode 4.5: Delivering Good Policing in the 2020s (FREE)
In S4E5, I provide highlights of and insights to an important policing report few have noticed, to help you get to grips with the wider context of your police leadership expectations.
In this FREE episode (subscriber-only access at first), I review a useful Police Foundation report called 'Getting the Right Things Done', derived from its Cumberland Lodge Policing Conference. This report was published very recently, but is packed full of insights to help give aspiring promotion candidates the competitive edge.
Are the police delivering what the public want? What works and how can this information be used in policing? How can police performance be managed? Such questions are important for aspiring leaders (especially at the more strategic Inspector + ranks) to be aware of. I can assure you, few other promotion candidates will have noticed this report to inform their leadership CPD and environmental scanning.

Episode 4.3: Interview with Former Devon and Cornwall Police ACC, Paul Davies
For S4E3, I had the privilege of interviewing former Assistant Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police, Paul Davies.
I asked him a range of questions on policing and leadership, to which his responses are insightful and fascinating. We cover a range of subjects, with loads of lessons for aspiring police leaders everywhere, whether you seek promotion or lateral career development. Topics include the promotion process, his own failure in promotion and what he learned, CPD, leadership styles, and controversial matters like the politicisation of policing.
You won't regret listening to this jam-pack hour of incredible insights, and it's quality CPD if you're aspiring to a higher rank in policing.
