Changes to IR35 take effect on 6 April. There could be implications for you and your business, and you need to act now, but might be wondering where to start. In our first episode, Paul Scope, joint head of the Newcastle employment team at Ward Hadaway, Rachel Matthewson from MHA Tait Walker and Megan Johnson from Nigel Wright offer straightforward advice and guidance. We’ll help you navigate the changes, stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive. Since we recorded the podcast, the government has made further announcements about the IR35 legislation, but these do not change the obligation for end user businesses to carry out status assessments on contractors using a personal services company. Note that the 'light touch' promise relates to penalties for deliberate non-compliance in the first 12 months and not back payments for tax and NI. If you don't fall under the small business exemption you should still carry out your assessments and make deductions as appropriate for services carried out after 6 April 2020.
