Today I am extremely excited to be sharing this powerful imperfectly perfect conversation with Richard Barrett. Richard is Managing Director of Barrett Academy for the Advancement of Human Values.
Richard shares his breakthrough work - the Barrett Model. Inspired by Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and tested over more than two decades of real-world experience with thousands of organizations, the model identifies the seven areas that comprise human motivations. These range from basic survival at one end, to service and concern for future generations at the other.
In this episode Richard explains how as parents we can take a values-based approach and provide personal and societal transformation through self-expression. We teach our children and young people to fully self-express, connect and contribute.
Richard added that we should never ever sacrifice our self-expression because it is about exploring your gifts and talents. Connection is about self expression. And contribution is about service.
