Good show, terrible audio balance

Yes, there are some issues with the story - the main character is also deeply unlikeable, though I assume that’s an intentional choice? But it’s still a lot of fun. Except that they’ve done ZERO work to level the audio - in almost every interview, or from scene to scene, one side will be significantly louder than the other, meaning you constantly have to toggle the volume to make speech audible, but need your hands immediately available to toggle back down when it switches back to the other speaker, or you’ll blow your eardrums. Please fix this, team!!!

P.s. cacophony is pronounced with two hard c’s, lol. Ka-kaw-feh-nee. Not trying to be obnoxious, but you use the word nearly every episode at this point and it’s driving me mental!!

Updated review

Podcast is getting better but is there a reason that episode 13 onwards is super inaudible? It’s unbelievably hard to hear and if you want a comparison, listen to Guess Who then listen to episode 18 (with headphones). Not easy to hear at all.

I want to love this. The story is very great and well thought out, but the main speaker talks to the “guests” in a real crap way. No realistic guest would be ok with the way she talks. She calls Officer Milieu (Johnny) at one point and literally berates him and yells his name at him thinking that would actually get facts. No actual officer would give her what she wanted with her attitude. Always calls people then acts like they are super dumb while speaking to them, as if that makes us like her more. The acting is exaggerated and I believe she has so much potential to fix this. Over time, I believe she will learn how to make this less aggressive and more realistic. Constantly saying “this is fake” makes it seem like she’s trying too hard. I will continue to listen to see what the progression of this is, given the fact that her stories are worth the listen. Give this a chance but be ready for cringe worthy acting and a condescending higher-than-thou attitude.

Better than The Black Tapes

Nail biting scary stories, narrated with fun, wit and sass. You do have to suspend your disbelief as you go into season 2, but overall this show has a clear and satisfying narrative and doesn’t tie itself up in knots like a certain other popular horror podcast. Spectacular, high quality audio production too.
