If they haven’t walked in your shoes

If they haven’t walked in your shoes

    People judge.

    I’ve written about it before.

They will judge you – no matter your shape or size.

They will judge you – no matter your profession or chosen lifestyle.

They will judge you – no matter your chosen partner or relationship status.

They will judge you – no matter who you are or what you’re all about.

They will judge you – that’s what they do.

The thing to remember is though that this is your life.

    Your one wild life.

    This is your existence.

Your one go at creating a life that is YOURS.

What you do with your life is YOUR choice –

    Not theirs.

    Not his.

    Not hers.

You’re the one who’s walking in your shoes.

You’re the one that is needed to step it up.

You’re the one who decides whether you take steps back or walk to your next crossroads.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in what they think.

    In how they perceive you.

In what they have to say about who you are.

    But in the end,

or rather at the very beginning,

    you have to ask yourself,

    If you really care.

If this person says your choices are crazy -

If that person says you took the wrong turn -

If he says that you’re ruining your life -

If she says that she doesn’t agree –

    Does it really matter?

If it feels right to you?

If you know it to be true?

If you know in your heart of hearts that this is the road for you?

And even if you don’t -

    even if you doubt

    and are scared

    and can’t really decide –

Who are they to tell you what’s right or wrong?

Who are they to tell you what’s good and bad FOR YOU?

Have they walked in your shoes?

    Lived your life?

Seen the world through your eyes?

    Even if you feel queasy

and are yet to decide –

    Who are they to judge?

The thing is that the people who judge the most are those that are unhappiest with their own lives.

    So, really,

you’re just a reflection of their own unfulfilled souls.

And instead of taking their words and turning them against yourself,

    use them to heal

    yourself

    this world

    supporting them in healing themselves.

As – no matter what you do –

    they will talk

    they will gossip

they will have stuff to say.

And most of what they say

    won’t apply to you,

    But to them.

    It’s their insecurity speaking.

    It’s their bias speaking.

It’s their narrow minded view of life,

    this world,

    YOU

    showing up for real.

Don’t let them hold you back.

Don’t let them tear you apart.

    Cry,

    of course.

    Hurt,

    of course.

    But then,

dust yourself off and do what you’ve always known was right for you.

And even if you don’t know just yet,

    turn inward,

    not to “them” –

whoever they are in your life

    and whoever they represent.

The moment you let go of “they”

that’s the moment you begin to walk to freedom.

That’s the moment you begin to arrive in your own shoes

and finally admit that you’ve known all along.

    That checking in with yourself

    that following your gut

that shaping your life based on your dreams

    based on your unique experience

is the biggest gift you can give yourself

    and them.

    Because you’ll be happy -

which one of my clients said the other day is life’s purpose anyway,

    If there ever was one.

The happier you are, the more you’ll uplift the spirits of others

And by God, we need happy people in this world.

How to not let the “New Decade – New You” Messages destroy you!

How to not let the “New Decade – New You” Messages destroy you!

    2020 is HERE.

After all the built-up, all the planning, the decorating, the cooking, the baking, the stressing, the holidays - BOOM - are over and done with.

Now, one part of you might be super delighted that it's all finally behind us.

But there might be another part of you that's like:

    Now what?!

What am I supposed to do with me time, money, wandering mind and scared heart now that all the distractions are gone?

Re-entering into "normal" life can feel scary, overwhelming, and - also - slightly underwhelming, disappointing even.

This steep fall from the overstimulation of the past month can cause major depression as you are now faced with the realities of life again - a life that you might not particularly like.

I get it. I've been there, which is why I share powerful solutions for not allowing yourself to get lost in the post-holiday blues.

This time after the craziness is your time to heal and feel.

Don't let it go to waste.

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, I also reflect on losing my connection to nature, what nature meant to me and my intention of reconnecting with "Mommy Earth" again in this year and moving forward.

I talk about death, the circle of life, growing roots and giving yourself the permission to have a blank slate.

And - of course - there's so much more!

Enjoy listening to this first episode of the new decade!

This episode was recorded on a recent walk through the woods, so if audio quality matters to you BIG TIME, this might be one of the episodes to skip.

Let your instincts run the show with Isabel Foxen Duke

Isabel Foxen Duke is back on the podcast!

Isabel is a world renowned expert in emotional eating, binge eating and chronic-diet recovery. Having worked with thousands of women in her coaching practice and online programs over the past decade, Isabel’s proven that conventional treatment for binge eating is flawed at best—and offers a radical new approach for those who’ve “tried everything.”

    We talk about:

    dieting as a progressive problem

"sugar addiction" and whether it's a real thing

how to navigate Christmas in a fatphobic world

the dangers of the "intuitive eating to lose weight" and the Christian "hunger and fulness" diets

how the belief of "failing" at mental health treatment programs causes trauma

mental health professionals hurting people who struggle with food

having way more than one rock bottom moment

becoming comfortable with the entire range of hunger to fullness - all the way to feeling stuffed

beginning to experience fullness as something that happens to you

allowing your instincts to run the show

the problem with eating disorder treatment and weight classification

the question whether you are willing to gain weight in the name of recovery or not?!

how yo-yo dieting impacts relationships and family constellations

    arriving at  "relaxed around food"

remembering that eating disorders are anxiety disorders

food, sexuality and our sex-shaming culture

adding in food instead of taking it out

    the importance of meals

the reality of eating disorders as a "family thing"

    creating verbal boundaries

    and so much more!

Continued Coaching, Triggers and Realizing your Potential

Continued Coaching, Triggers and Realizing your Potential

In this episode of the Escape Diet Prison Podcast, I talk about follow-up care and staying in a healthy place throughout recovery from your food and body image issues and beyond.

I strongly believe in having a structure of "care" even if you've been in recovery for a while or are fully recovered as our battle with food is not the root cause of our pain.

There are, of course, all kinds of opportunities to receive continued support and care; a nutritionist is different from a therapist who is different from a coach. I believe that throughout life, we'll need support from different kinds of professionals as life isn't over after we've healed our relationship with food.

The question you may want to ask yourself - when you feel quite solid around food and your body - is: what are you wanting to get out of your life? In other words: what do YOU desire right now and in the future?

If you're worried about being triggered and having past memories come up, there's a huge opening for you to go deeper and inquire more.

What is there that worries you about being triggered?

What is not resolved yet? What are you allowed to let go of now that you've grown even more?

I have been in lots of coaching relationships ever since I started my recovery from several eating disorders and depression and I find it tremendously helpful to have someone by my side. My needs have shifted over the years, but having that support is priceless, especially when you feel called to live into your fullest potential and are yearning to let your heart guide you.

    How have your needs shifted?

How are you showing up for life and for yourself right now? How are you allowing your fears to box you in and are you willing to blast through your self-made prison doors?

I coach several women who have (almost) fully healed their relationship with food and their bodies and are now wanting to get more out of life. We still talk about body image and food issues at times as they do come up, but most of the time, we realize that whatever comes up, comes from a deeper place.

The same is true for you.

So, if you feel the nudge to go back to therapy, coaching or whatever kind of support you desire, follow through, dare to book an appointment, make the time for your own healing and show up for yourself in the best way you can at this point in your life.

    Love and light,
