Patriots preview: Belichick's defensive approach may push the Seahawks to run the ball more

Patriots preview: Belichick's defensive approach may push the Seahawks to run the ball more

The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots both won their Week 1 matchups, but they did it in very different ways. Russell Wilson attacked the Falcons defense through the air while the Patriots did most of their damage through the run game. Cam Newton may not have to change his approach this weekend against Seattle, and many Seattle fans will be tuning in to see if Pete Carroll reverts to a run heavy approach considering the strength of the Patriots defense. Mark Schofield of the Scho Show, part of Pats Pulpit on SB Nation, joins the show to preview the Sunday Night Football game coached by two of the NFL's best over the last decade.

Seahawks injury report updates, Patriots preview, Week 2 picks

This show begins with a look at the injury report for the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots ahead of Friday's final practice. Jamal Adams was listed on the injury report with an elbow injury, but was a full participant in practice.  To recap Sunday's win and preview the Seahawks Week 2 matchup with the Patriots, Brandan Schulze joined Anthony Nachreiner on the Nach on Sports to talk about a shift from the test for the secondary versus Atlanta to a test of the Seahawks front seven against the Pats. Brandan and Anthony close the show by running through their Week 2 picks.

A guide for determining if Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are cooking

A guide for determining if Russell Wilson and the Seahawks are cooking

While a lot of people throw around the term, "Let Russ Cook." How many people can actually define it well? Listening to Wednesday's episode of the Palpably Unfair Podcast (or PUPcast), part of the SB Nation NFL Show, the discussion around Wilson focused on the number of times he dropped back to pass. Wilson's 39 dropbacks against the Falcons was on par with his career average over the last four seasons. It's not really a good metric of measurement for what Seahawks fans have been talking about.
To help narrow down exactly what to look for, John Fraley has a new weekly column at Field Gulls that grades the Seahawks in four specific areas. Pass/run ratio in neutral situations, handing the ball off when it's 2nd an 9+, allowing Russell Wilson to make plays on the ground, and decision making on 4th and short.

3 IN, 3 OUT: Redemption, resilience and reaping Ito Smith's soul

3 IN, 3 OUT: Redemption, resilience and reaping Ito Smith's soul

Russell Wilson had his best Week 1 performance of his career, Jamal Adams made us all understand why Pete Carroll on John Schneider thought he was worth two first round picks, and Metcalf's touchdown on 4th and 5 was one of the game's top highlights. But 3 IN, 3 OUT is about getting beyond the top level highlights and going a bit deeper. Clinton Bonner talks about how Metcalf made up for a big drop even before his touchdown. Sure Damien Lewis had too many penalties, but how about hit hustle and hit on Carson's second touchdown? This show goes so deep that we talk about the mixture of joy and concern when it came to multiple plays involving the Falcons third-string running back. Tune in and hear all of the details!

RECAP: Seahawks vs Falcons - The Russell Wilson and Jamal Adams show

RECAP: Seahawks vs Falcons - The Russell Wilson and Jamal Adams show

The Seattle Seahawks get an opening day win on the road for the first time since 2013, and taking down the Atlanta Falcons 38-25. You have to go back to 2014 to find the last time Seattle won an opener by double digits. At home or away, the Seahawks have struggled in their first game of the season. The wins against the Bengals in 2019 and Dolphins in 2016 by 1 and 2 points respectively. To break down the victory for Seattle, Stacy Rost from 710 ESPN in Seattle joins the show as we discuss a huge game from Russell Wilson. He had a little something for everyone in this game, by starting out with three straight passes, topping 4,000 career rushing yards, and gave us one of his signature moments leading up to the Seahawks fifth touchdown of the day.

WhiteKSE ,

Best Seahawks pod in circulation

Hi Guys - just joined as a contributor after freeloading for a few months. Really enjoy the level of insight and the general debate on all things Hawks (must admit I do disagree with Adam from time to time!) but a huge fan. UK based so not easy to find good Hawks discussions so having your pod to listen too really helps. Hopefully flying over for my first Hawks game at C-Link this coming season - Go Hawks.
