#42 - Greg Grosicki PhD - Aging Athletically

Greg Grosicki, Ph.D., CEP,  is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology and Director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory in Georgia Southern University.

Follow him on Twitter and Instagram: @DrGregGrosicki

Greg is extremely interested in how we can alter lifestyle to  positively influence physical capacity as we age. He is also a high level endurance athlete, having completed Ironman Hawaii in 9 hours and 22 mins.

I first came across his work reading a research paper he was the lead author on that investigated the effects of aging on slow and fast twitch muscle fiber mass, strength, and power.

In this interview we dig into what he found, and how you can implement this information to age more athletically.

If you are interested in a high level of physical function into later years for both golf and life, this is one you will enjoy.

#41 - Greg Lehman - Chiropractors vs PT's, injuries, recovery, and the science of stretching

#41 - Greg Lehman - Chiropractors vs PT's, injuries, recovery, and the science of stretching

After a 5 month break, the Fit For Golf Podcast is back, and I hope to bring you more frequent episodes. In today’s episode I talk with Greg Lehman, who is a trained chiropractor, physical therapist, and strength and conditioning coach. Greg is a very keen golfer and has also done some of his research studies in golf.

We talk about the differences and similarities between chiros and physios, common misunderstandings, good vs bad practice, and things to look out for with a practitioner if you are looking for one.

We also delve into whether swing mechanics can predict the likelihood of injury, the science of stretching, and why most things touted as improving recovery really don’t do much.

Just before we get started I want to let everyone know of a promotion that is currently running on the Fit For Golf App. You can try the app for $1 for 1 month by using the discount code TRYFFG. Go to fitforgolf.app to sign up for the app and take advantage of this offer.
There are home and gym workout programs suitable for all levels of fitness and golf skill.

#40 - Erik Barzeski - Long Term Golf Development

In this episode I am joined by Erik Barzeski. Erik is an excellent golf coach whom I have personally worked with on my own game through video analysis of swings recorded at rage sessions, which were absolutely fantastic.

I first learned about Erik after reading the book he co authored, Lowest Score Wins.
I reached out to Erik to let him know how impressed I was by the book, and we have stayed in contact since, discussing a wide range of golf improvement related topics.

I am always impressed with Erik’s knowledge, so was glad to finally have him as a guest on the podcast.

Just before we get started, a reminder that Fit For Golf has its own app. Golfers of all ages and all standards are making huge strides in their golf performance, fitness, and health. If I can, anyone can.

Have been following alot of Mikes advice over last year or so and subscribing to the fit for golf app for a few months now. I’m your classic mid 40’s man, played a bit of sport when young, lost touch with my body for years and got a wake up call in the form of a 33 BMI. Never done any real strength work and couldn’t do a single press up. Can now do press ups and working my way towards a pull up AND can get up out of bed without having to do some kind of body roll! If you’re looking for no nonsense factual advice on strength and nutrition I cannot recommend fit for golf highly enough. Forget all that six pack in a month rubbish! Also, I was a 23 hc for first 3 yrs of playing golf, in last year I’ve cut that to 11 hc. That CANNOT be a coincidence.
Thanks Mike!
