Forrest Gump and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co‪.‬ The Pod Charles Cinecast

    • Film History

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas run to the finish line with our final Vietnam film in our WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?... HOLLYWOOD MOVIES arc!
What better way to finish off the Vietnam War, than with one of the "best" films about the war, and just in general, of all time? Of course, we're talking about the 1994 Robert Zemeckis classic FORREST GUMP, starring Tom Hanks.
You know the story, we see Tom Hanks, in a much different role than when he last appeared in our War arc with Saving Private Ryan, as the magical dimwit who floats through life with ease and somehow has a part in almost every major American event from the 1950s – 1980s. Smack dab in the middle, we see Forrest go off to Vietnam, for truly one of the more realistic takes on the war.
With one of the greatest soundtracks ever assembled, full of kick ass bands like CCR, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds and Lynyrd Skynyrd, plus an Academy Award-winning performance from its lead, FORREST GUMP is arguably one of the greatest movies of all-time. But is it also one of the worst?
Tune in, as we have a look at this iconic slice of American pie...
