54: How Do You Decide What to Fight For? – Sara Dean

54: How Do You Decide What to Fight For? – Sara Dean

I have my amazing, thoughtful, kick-ass, brilliant friend Sara Dean with me today. Sarah is the creator and mind behind Shameless Mom Academy. We have an INCREDIBLE CONVERSATION about what it’s like to stand up for being a woman in this world. How to have an opinion and a voice without sounding “bitchy.”

Both of us are PASSIONATE about our messages, and it can get easy these days to get sucked into disagreements or even HOSTILE conversations, online and off, that can lead us down a rabbit-hole.

We delve into examples that happen to us, and likely to you too every day. Scrolling through social media and getting caught up in a HEATED “DEBATE” over divisive topics is all too common, it’s a slippery slope. Sara and I talk about how to find a middle ground. Too often, if we stand up for our beliefs, we are labeled as “Bitches,” and if we sit back and are accommodating, we’re not doing ourselves or our beliefs justice.

It’s often about asking yourself, “How can I insert myself into a conversation in a way that is powerful and meaningful. That doesn’t make everyone defensive, but that puts some clear boundaries in place?”

Sara gives us some wonderful insight and tips on how we can effectively navigate these tricky situations. Because we’ve all been there, where we feel we cannot help ourselves in those kinds of conversations. You want to say something, but also, you don’t want to say it in a way where you’re going to be immediately dismissed because it’s a FLY-OFF-THE-HANDLE-BITCHY-BOSSY comment.

Sara says, “I’m just conscientious around how I respond. But stay in ALIGNMENT with my CORE VALUES. When I’m going to insert myself into something on social media, I enter the conversation with curiosity and compassion.”

And we also talk about how these strategies can be useful in other areas of our lives, with our partners, our children, our parents, and friends or colleagues. More and more, we seem to be running into difficult and divisive conversations.

Sara and I also get into a deep conversation about how important this is when LEADERSHIP is considered. You’ve got to be able to say something and that sense of hesitancy to step up and say something will diminish your role as a leader. And ALL WOMEN ARE LEADERS in different capacities, but many of us don’t identify as such.

Apologizing or minimizing or saying, “I’m sorry,” when there’s nothing to be sorry about is habitual with many women. If you’re not setting boundaries, not LEANING IN to difficult conversations, or saying things that might not be popular, even in your own home, you’re shrinking.

People, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there is A TON packed into this episode, and I hope you get some fantastic value out of it. Again, thank you for listening and keeping the conversation going. I appreciate it.

53: Top Game-Changing Tools from Badass Boss Babe, Susan Hyatt

53: Top Game-Changing Tools from Badass Boss Babe, Susan Hyatt

All right, Front Seat Lifers, you are in for a TREAT. This is technically the second episode of the new year, but I couldn’t think of a better person to start the new year with than Susan Hyatt. She is currently my coach, helping me take my business to the next level.

If there’s anybody SASSIER than me, it’s probably Susan Hyatt. And that’s saying a lot because I’m pretty damn sassy myself.

Susan KEEPS IT REAL. She’s a hustler. She works hard. She has a beautiful message for her business clients and also her BARE clients. She is a true, true inspiration. A real BOSS BABE. She is absolutely the real deal. And I’m honored and delighted to have her with you today.

This episode is JAM PACKED with GOLDEN NUGGETS, so listen in. We cover Susan’s incredible story and how she ended up on her amazing path to kick some serious ass. And that’s just while we are getting warmed up… The trauma, the learning, the growth…

We talk about BODY IMAGE ISSUES and the super important work Susan is doing to help address this with young women and girls, and how programs help untold numbers move with LOVE and eat with ATTENTION instead of DEPRIVATION.

Her approach has seen an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response because “I think women are TIRED OF IT. They’re tired of the whole body shaming that goes on. They’re tired of dieting and counting points and everything.”

We also spend some time talking about how important it is to have a longterm vision. It’s what draws you forward when the going gets tough because it will get tough. It’s a real bitch sometimes. And it’s better to focus on the 90-day goals that you have set, than to “squirrel” and chase something new.

“It’s a long game, long game… At the end of this career, when I look back at my legacy, I want to be able to say the BARE or BOLD curriculum is known internationally for schools, hospitals, healthcare systems… That’s going to take some work.”

The going gets tough at different levels of your business for different reasons. And if you aren’t anchored in a strong enough “why,” then it becomes so easy to say, “I’m out, like I’m just going to go get a job, or I’m just gonna like go do something different because this isn’t worth it to me.”

Okay, there’s so much more to this episode, but if listen in, you will hear me admit one of my mindset issues… which has definitely been playing small and thinking people don’t want to talk to me and they don’t want to play with me.

Working with Susan has helped me to overcome this and just ask. Ask for money, ask to be on the stage, ask to be on the podcast… ask. (Do it professionally, don’t send those annoying-ass messages like, “This is why I think I’d be great on your podcast.”)

Wrapping up here, I want to mention Susan is working on a documentary, so watch for that, because I’m sure it will kick some SERIOUS BUTT, just like she does. And I know ‘em when I see ‘em.

Again, as always, thank you for being here. Thank you for having me.

52: Core Values, Your Best Decision-Making Tool

52: Core Values, Your Best Decision-Making Tool

Happy Freaking New Year! It is definitely my favorite time of year. It is a NEW YEAR. It is a NEW DECADE. It is 2020 people, and we are going to be bringing you all kinds of NEW and EXCITING THINGS this year.

I’m super, SUPER EXCITED. Welcome to the New Year, and today’s episode is one of MY FAVORITE TOOLS. I’ve been giving you lots of my favorite tools, and this week is no different. I figured this is the best possible way that I can help you start the new year.

I did not create this, and I am going to be honest, I don’t know who created this. I learned about it when I was a therapist, and I have been obsessed with it since. Absolutely. Completely. OBSESSED.

I’m going to tell you a little bit about it today, but you’ve got to get the download (see link in the notes). Get your Core Values Exercise. I give you the directions and beautiful, cute little cards with all the core values on them.

THESE CORE VALUES BECOME A BARRIER if you will, or a guidepost, or a SHIELD for what you allow into your life.

I believe so strongly in the POWER of these core values that I want everybody to do them. That’s all there is to it. I want you to do it with yourself and then any partner, kids, anybody. To start a new year is to determine what your core values are. And again, treating them as if they are the barrier for what you allow in.

During this episode, I guide you through this powerful exercise. Last week’s episode, the Visualization exercise, and this Core Values episode are both very powerful in helping you learn how to set boundaries.

And CLARIFYING what is important to you. This will change your life. If you want a new decision-making tool, this is it.

Look at your core values and ask yourself, “Does this decision line up with my core values?” If the answer is no, you get to move on with all the confidence in the world.

All right guys, Happy New Year! I am so excited to bring all this stuff to you, like so, so, so excited. It just makes me a little bit crazy, and I’m so excited. So again, Happy New Year!

    51: Powerful Visualization

    51: Powerful Visualization

Hello, Front Seat Lifers! Today I am going to guide you through the best visualization tool I have found. This is a pretty special episode because this is something that I normally only reserve for my private clients. I also still do in my life personally, and hands down it is the best visualization exercise I’ve ever done, so I’m excited to bring it to you.

Here’s the deal about this episode, I want you to take 30 or 40 minutes or an hour to do this entire exercise.

I’m going to walk you through the visualization. Before you go to bed would be a great time to do this, or during your morning practice or sometime during the day where you have 40 minutes. This is the episode where you need to spend some time listening. And then, when it’s over, get out a journal and write every visual that you have.

I will talk to you about that at the end, but I wanted to preface it so that you don’t waste your time. I know your time is valuable, and I want you to get the most out of this.

So flag this or come back to it. But this is not the one that you want to be listening to while you’re in the shower or putting your makeup on because to get the most out of it, you’re going to need to close your eyes, get centered, and then journal afterward.

When we end the episode, I’m going to ask you to pick up your journal and then I’m going to have you write down every feeling, every single thing you remember, the feelings in your tummy, how you felt about yourself, what you saw, what was there, where you were, what were you doing in your life, all the things.

So get your journal, get yourself into a comfy spot… are you ready to go? Okay, I’m excited.

I pray and hope that this is powerful for you. Thank you. Thank you for listening. Happy New Year and I will see you for the New Year’s episode!

    50: Your Year In Review

    50: Your Year In Review

Hello Front Seat Lifers! I am thrilled as always to be here with you, especially at the end of the year. Today’s episode is a bit of a SPECIAL EPISODE. I did a Facebook Live, a webinar, and made this into a podcast. So one of my themes for the past year and definitely into 2020 is working smarter, not harder, and making one hour of my life into three separate things would definitely be in that category.

So this is CHOCK FULL of information about your year end review. Why us weirdo intuitive types need to do our year end review differently. I talk to you about all of my best tips and tricks and tools and all of the things that I do this time of year. All to make sure that I’m getting ready for the most magnificent year that I can have going into the first of the year.

So I hope you enjoy today’s podcast / webinar / masterclass / Facebook live. I talk many, many times throughout this episode about the FRONT SEAT SQUAD. So I am very, very excited to announce that the Front Seat Squad, which has been the community in the past, is transferring into a free group.

So EVERY intuitive is invited! And so I’m really excited to invite a whole bunch of newbies into the group.

I cannot wait to talk to you all about personality type codependency, setting boundaries, loving people for who they are. Being unapologetically who you are, the 80 20 rule of rest, your Front Seat, your backseat, you’re your driver, your copilot, your drunk uncle, your baby in the bathroom.

Oh, ALL THE THINGS that I absolutely love to talk about. The Front Seat Squad is about that in particular, it’s about personal development. It’s about differentiation and attonement. It putting your own oxygen mask on first, and then being in relationship and accepting and loving people for who they are and not trying to change them.

So I’m excited to have you guys in there. This is not a group for entrepreneurs in particular. This is really a group for PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT and those that are very interested in all of those things that I just mentioned.

So go pop yourself into the group. Yes, you have to fill out four freaking questions. I believe in having a teeny tiny bit of skin in the game, but this is also our way of protecting the group and making sure that this is a, a small, private, intimate community.

So my friends, GET YOUR BUTT OVER THERE. All of you listeners too, that have been listening for this whole time and had been wondering, what’s the next step? How do I ask Jessica questions? How do I see her? How do we do masterclasses? This is how.

Thank you so, so much for listening and putting up with my crazy this year and I will see you guys in the squad as well as on the podcast next week.

49: Don’t Strangle Your Family During the Holidays!

49: Don’t Strangle Your Family During the Holidays!

It is getting towards the end of the year, which always means family time, holiday time, all the wonderful things that come with spending time with our friends and family around the holidays. But it also NOTORIOUSLY comes with frustrations and irritations around personality type.

This is one of probably my busiest times of the year in terms of getting questions from listeners and viewers and people on my website, “Oh my God, my uncle or my sister or my mom or my stepdad… they’re driving me CRAZY! I think it’s a personality type thing. Can you talk to me about these things so that I can LOVE THEM for who they are?!”

Today’s topic is all about navigating the holidays, asking people to love us for who we are, but then we also need to love them for who they are. It’s really about FAMILY ACCEPTANCE around the holidays.

To help you with this sometimes SUPER challenging topic, my amazing team has put together a series of videos in addition to this episode. So you can listen to this with your family, but you can also watch these short videos. (See the link below the notes.)

Today I’ll talk about introversion and extroversion, sensing and intuition, thinking and feeling and judging and perceiving, and the differences between those dichotomies in particular. And then again in particular, how they relate to FAMILY DYNAMICS. I’ll give you some tips and insight so you can navigate your family holiday experiences smoothly and with love.

Hopefully, this can help you talk to your family about these differences so you don’t annoy the s**t out of each other. We can learn to love each other for our differences and learn to accept. I might not even go as far as to say love the differences, but certainly, get to a place of acceptance of those differences.

I think this is a Dr. Phil-ism, “You can choose to be right. Or you can CHOOSE to be HAPPY.” And it doesn’t mean you let people walk all over you, but it’s also about picking your frickin’ battles. Is it worth fighting over? Are you going to accept your family around the holidays? Are you going to accept yourself?

Again, it’s about showing up as who you are but not expecting everybody else to be like you. All right, my friends, it is two weeks before Christmas and I hope you are enjoying this holiday season and doing whatever it is that makes you feel wonderful around this time of year!
