Being In the Danger Zone
Dervish is with Andrew Drury a journalist and film-maker with a passion for meeting, interviewing, and getting to the truth around events that have captured the attention of the world
Over the last year, Andy has been the person Shamima Begum, the teenager from East London who travelled to Syria to join ISIS has been talking to, and he shares an insight into the person behind the headlines.
He also talks to Dervish about some of his interviews and experiences from travelling the world and what its really like being in extreme situations with extreme individuals
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Shamima was radicalised at age thirteen
I’m interviewing Assad the Syrian President next, it will be his first interview in seven years
My new film ‘Danger Zone’ is finished and will come out this year
With the radicalisation of Shamima someone is responsible for it, at thirteen she was just a schoolgirl and the question is why did no one stop her? In my eyes, she’s a victim herself
The question is how do you become British?
Shamima was born in England but her father is from Bangladesh so the question is how many generations does it take to prove you are British?
We betrayed a whole nation and we don’t care because we choose who we feel sorry for
The number of people lost in the twin towers happens at least twice over every year in Somali
Because it’s a different race we don’t understand we don’t think or care about it
When you travel to war zones and see the reality for people it’s understandable that they want a better life for themselves and their children
The girls in the camps are leaving and they are being repatriated
There are British girls who have done deals with the Government to come back
In Mogadishu, my bodyguard was blown up and killed
I’ve been to places where suicide attacks have happened
The Klu Klax Klan love to watch Downton Abbey
BEST MOMENTS
‘The people who are in refugee camps are the people who can’t afford to get out’
‘We say we aren’t racist as a country but we are because we don’t care if a race we don’t recognise has a big loss’
‘Currently she is stateless and that’s against her human rights’

Get Into Recreational Diving
Dev is talking to Jack Brown all about recreational diving, how he got started, the training you need and the best dive sites around the world
They discuss everything from the right technique to Jack’s most memorable dives and animals he has seen when diving across the world
This in-depth conversation is a great listen that gives a really helpful insight into what recreational diving is all about and could be what inspires you to have a go
KEY TAKEAWAYS
A rebreather means you can dive for longer
When you are certified you can dive to a depth of 30 metres beyond this you need further specialised training
Caves and places with strong currents make diving potentially more dangerous
My ambition is to dive in Iceland between the tectonic plates in the Silfra fissure
Being out completely in the blue is the bit I don’t like as a diver
There are some great dives to do around shipwrecks
There are dive maps to show you where the best dives are around the world
It’s always worth talking to the locals about good dive sites
You are not allowed to remove anything from a dive site
Having a good profile in diving makes all the difference
In diving, the kit is quite bulky when you are swimming and at the surface
Shipwrecks are what’s really interesting to me
BEST MOMENTS
‘There are some really great wreck dives you can do’
‘Take nothing but memories and leave nothing except bubbles’

Arash Farboud, CEO and Founder of the Arash Motor Company who design and build Hyper cars and Supercars including race cars and EV’s talks with Dev about his love of sci-fi and space technology and how it has influenced his car designs and shares his favourite cars.
They discuss how 3D printing can be the way forward and why being in control of your manufacturing process is vital in car production globally. This episode is an entertaining and informative conversation that has something for anyone who is interested in Hyper and Supercars
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We know we are going towards space technology
We need to make producing everything as fast as possible and 3D printing is the way forward
Who is going to get the gold on the moon?
We need robots now not any more machines
We manufacture as much as we can in this country and have solar panels on all of our factories
Tax and energy is very skewed at the moment
You need to be in a position to control the major points of manufacture
Humans are about to enter a phase of understanding the importance of spending more money on saving the planet
The only viable way forward is the colonisation of another planet
You have to be wacky to do great things
I never sell my cars I still have them all
The car of my dreams, the ultimate car by a long way is the Porsche Carrera GT it can’t be beaten
It’s a Porsche, it’s got a screaming F1 engine in it, looks spectacular and it’s an asset that will continue to grow in value
BEST MOMENTS
‘I’ve always liked the technology in space’
‘My cars are all named after fax machines’
‘My first car was a mini metro that did 120mph and then I had a Golf GTI that changed my life’

The Blue Ferrari F40, Road Trips and Rarity in Cars with Sam Moores – Photographer and Super Car Owner
Sam Moores is a photographer, podcaster, classic car collector and supercar owner who has owned some fascinating supercars including the famous blue Ferrari F40 which broke records when it was recently sold
He talks with Dev about some of the amazing cars he has owned and discusses what makes a car valuable and why for him it’s about buying cars that you like and enjoy.
Listen in and hear this fascinating conversation about what makes a car interesting and why there are people out there who want something different
KEY TAKEAWAYS
I had my fun with the Ferrari F40 but it wasn’t my forever car
Cars that appreciate are those with low mileage, are in as original condition and have only had one owner
There are now dedicated platforms for selling cars and selling my car this way was a good way to get the best return
The Ferrari F40 is fun to drive in short bursts more than over long periods of time
Ferrari produce beautiful cars that are masterpieces of art
There are a lot of people out there who want something different
I had my time, enjoyed it and made some memories
You shouldn’t really buy a car as an investment you should buy because it’s something you like and it makes you happy
I like driving and have done some wicked road trips to Sweden
I’ve owned and sold a few cars that have made money
It’s about rarity and being interesting - it has to be kinda cool or have something about it
I’m going to wait until I find something that is special for me
I need a daily practical car – RS4, an electric car – the fiat 500 converted to electric because now in the city you really do need to have an electric car
McLaren F1 GTR is my all-time favourite car and for something old a 65 Porsche short wheelbase
BEST MOMENTS
‘Over time I’ve got more and more into cars’
‘It went for more than anyone thought it would because of the history and it had become a bit of a personality’
‘The most fun I’ve ever had on a road trip has been in the snow’

Why the Truth is Always the Headline Story - The Interview with Shamima Begum
Film and documentary maker and war journalist Andrew Drury who is best known for his documentary interview with Shamima Begum talks to Dervish about how he followed his passion and shares some of his experiences from across the world in this fascinating episode
He discusses the importance of reporting the truth in any story and why getting the truth out to the wider world is so important along with how he got started through adventure tourism this is a great listen that confronts some of the challenges faced by people across the globe and the value in hearing the truth.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
For me interviewing Shamima was a scoop because I’ve only been working as a journalist for the last couple of years
My passion for adventure tourism started about twenty-five years ago
I love a story and I spent time with a sniper who shared his story
I have brought back stories that people need to hear about
For me, podcasts are another way of getting the truth out there. It’s for Shamima’s story and the truth to be told
I believe there are lots of people who need to come back but I told her I believe she should go to prison if she comes back here
She became a terrorist when she married someone who was a member of ISIS
She was a normal teenager but then she changed
When you are there you can’t just leave it doesn’t work like that
I’ve seen atrocities all over the world and have spoken to people who were forced to watch beheadings by ISIS
The system in this country failed Shamima, people should have noticed if she was becoming radicalised
I think they will have her back because she knows too much but she’s not a threat
There has to be a certain amount of humanity and compassion
I love telling stories and It’s about living a life that means something I don’t want to leave this planet not having done anything
BEST MOMENTS
‘I love documentaries and I want to live a documentary’
‘It’s about following your passion’
‘Travelling is what changed my mindset about people’

They not only complete their countdown they also discuss building a car from scratch and
share interesting and fascinating facts about the cars that made it onto their most wanted cars.
Listen in and find out more about some of the most iconic cars in the world and hear about some of Marc’s and Dervish’s more unusual car choices
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The 1969 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is said by many to be the prettiest car that’s ever been designed
The people who know, know this was the first real supercar and there are only fourteen in existence
The Italian’s, they know how to make cars
It’s an erratic, invigorating nightmare of a car to drive with everything you could possibly imagine that makes a car exciting involved
I love the way the Lamborghini Sian Roadster looks with its mean and low, wide backend
People say it looks like a space vehicle but if you buy one they fly it to wherever you are in the world
The sixties Ford Bronco does it for me
The dual clutch on some cars it just works
I love that whole concept of we want to go racing but we need to build cars to sell
They are a focused tool for racing
People don’t buy and sell those cars they are just inherited
People buy those types of cars just to hunt trophies they are iconic designs for Concours events
You couldn’t say it’s a good-looking car it was the last ‘hurrah’ for Ferrari at the time
The Porsche Singer has amazing attention to detail and is a real statement about the people who made it
BEST MOMENTS
‘The Alfa Romeo 1969 Stradale - It is a stunning car’
‘It’s a beast of a car’
I want to build a car from the raw metal all the way up to the complete finished vehicle
