TGGC #93: Accepting that change is hard and hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with Nicole Antoinette

Nicole Antoinette is the host of the Real Talk Radio podcast, where people come together to talk about the wonderful mess of being human. A recovering self-help addict and former goal-setting coach, Nicole’s mission is to help people get to the heart of what’s true without judgement, and to explore how we can use grit and grace to close the gap between what we say we want and what we actually do. I loved talking with her about her decision to hike more than 400 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail last year, how she successfully started a meditation practice after years of wanting to, the value of doing hard things, and what it really takes to create lasting change.

TGGC #92: Going on an emotional tour with Bernadette Pleasant

Bernadette Pleasant is the creator of Femme, a fusion of sensual movement, dance, meditation, creative visualization and celebration of the feminine form.

Femme! as designed, creates sacred, safe spaces for women to explore their femininity; to move in sensual ways, to explore and release emotions, to alter or release beliefs about themselves and to unapologetically love their bodies!

Bernadette was such a fun person to talk with. We dove into why people live “half-assed emotional lives” (and how to stop), the power of drumming and how it helps us to reach other levels of our psyche, and the wisdom we can access through our bodies.

TGGC #91: Separating your sense of self-worth from your work with Lulu Brud

Lady Lu of the Wolves, aka Lulu Brud Zsebe, is an actress on Pretty Little Liars and the wild woman behind the brand OF THE WOLVES. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and pup. In her free time she's probably playing with plants, re-designing homes or running around in the desert. I loved talking to Lulu about her connection to wolves, how she balances the competing demands of Hollywood acting and her more spiritual work, separating your sense of self-worth from your work, and making conscious decisions as a consumer.

A Thought-Provoking Honest and Relatable Podcast

Listening to these interviews, I really love the sense of connection that Sarah develops with her interviewees and her audience.

I love that Sarah sounds so honest and upfront about her life and the challenges that many of us face, especially those of us who are HSPs, or who have struggled with burnout.

The conversations about experiences of the body and pregnancy have been really fascinating, because I am a pre and postnatal coach, budding doula, and a mum. I find the discussion about allowing yourself to go quiet when you need to, to do your creative work when you need to, and to not just keep trying to do everything you have always done, and pregnancy, and motherhood on top of it all. I feel like when I had my three little ones, and aargh especially when I had three under four years of age, that I would have benefited so much from hearing these feelings aired and the acknowledgement of 'having cycles and seasons'.

The open discussion about how to balance wellbeing, nurturing others, doing the work you love, and nurturing yourself is so important if we are to effect a cultural sea change in the way that our society views women, women's work, and working women, with attitudes to pregnancy and motherhood being an inherent part of this shift.

I especially loved the interview with Sarah Peck the other week, and the metaphor she used around labour and birth, and having a time to push being only a short period within the process. It struck me deeply how the way that birth is managed by some caregivers, is very much mirrored by our broader society in an obsession with measurement, auditing, analysing, and pushing relentlessly forward, rather than making space for resting, pleasure, natural rates of development, and breathing through it all.

I could rave all day about how beneficial I think that the sharing of these ideas is, but I shan't. I'll just say THANKYOU and this is WONDERFUL.

I fully recommend the Girl Gang podcast!

Love it!

This podcast is wonderful. There's a great range of really authentic conversations. While I disagree with some of the viewpoints, this podcast is all about honest conversations, and that's fantastic. It's really helped slow down and relax a bit, and ultimately get more done.
