DAD'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT - The Power of Conversations and Friendship

DAD'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT - The Power of Conversations and Friendship

Today I am joined by two friend (and also Dads) from South East London who liked listening to podcasts, and liked talking so decided to start their own podcast called Dad's What I'm Talking About - Nathan and Bobby.
One of the most popular misconceptions leveled at men is that they don't talk about how the feel. The reality is that many men do, they just do it in a different way to women and when you get two men together they can wax lyrical on a number of subjects - indeed this episode is testament to that.
    We delve into:
How the mainstream media has become so sanitized that podcasts and new media are giving people just what they want right now.
Why specific podcasts that empower people are very counter to the victimhood narrative parroted in the mainstream media.
Role models and how our children will earn money in the future very differently to us.
The importance of going on adventures with our children that they will remember.
Why some parents really need to grow up and stop being chadults.

JOHN BARRY: Inside the Mind of Man and Male Psychology

JOHN BARRY: Inside the Mind of Man and Male Psychology

Today I speak to Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Honorary Lecturer in Psychology at University College London, Clinical Hypnotherapist and author of The Book Perspectives in Male Psychology – John Barry PhD.

With mental health and specifically male mental health under the spotlight like never before its a hot topic of discussion. Rates of male suicide are still high and the challenge of how to address mental health problems in men prevail. But what if we were to take a different and unique approach as to how we address the difficulties men face? One that is specific to the needs of men?

    John and I discuss:

How men's studies and social reconstructionists view masculinity as a social construct that needs "fixing" rather than embracing the inherent and unique differences in men.
Why men are drawn towards methods of therapy that are more solution based and rational rather than going continuously over their feelings.
The problem of psychologists trying to blame and train masculinity out of men.
Gamma Bias and how it highlights the accolades of women whilst ignoring the same achievements of men.
The massive importance of valuing dads, their involvement in a child's upbringing and the benefits of mum and dad being present in a child's upbringing.

GRAHAM GOULDEN - The Active Bystander Approach to Violence Reduction

GRAHAM GOULDEN - The Active Bystander Approach to Violence Reduction

Today I speak to Founder of Cultivating Minds UK, leadership and violence prevention trainer, former Chief Inspector in the Scottish Police force and member of the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit - Graham Goulden.

With recent well publicised cases of violence against women in the news and also cases of violence being perpetrated by members of police forces on both sides of the Atlantic, right now it's never been such a topical subject.

How as a society we being to challenge the behaviour of individuals within our institutions, organisations and even peer groups in the future is a challenge that needs to be taken up.

    Graham and I discuss:

How the cases of Sarah Everard and George Floyd have really case a light on police forces but also how organisations allow attitudes to take hold.
The importance of men being reflective about their own behaviour and their behaviour in the past
How all men can set an example, be a role model and set the tone for masculinity.
Why building character in young men is so important and the strength of building a personal brand for young men to live by.
The destructive influence of imaginary peers in how boys shape their behaviour towards girls.

JOSH CONNOLLY - Find Your Strength Through The Art of Resilience

JOSH CONNOLLY - Find Your Strength Through The Art of Resilience

Today I speak to Resilience and Breathwork Coach, Expert in Humanising Our Emotions, Speaker and Trainer, Josh Connolly.
One of the biggest questions in mental health after stuff like "it's good to talk", "just talk about it", is the reality of what comes next. This is the part when most people really need to face down some difficult truths about themselves and begin to go on a journey, equipping themselves with the tools to move forward.
In my conversation with Josh we discuss:
How Josh struggled for a lot of his life by adopting the tough guy persona which led to him considering taking his own life.
The manner in which we simply don't teach our kids as a society how to be comfortable with experiencing the full range of sometimes difficult emotions.
Why being the best Dad means being comfortable with our own full range of emotions when we are with them.
The ability and awareness to 'reflect and correct' situations where we haven't shown up as the Dad and Husband we want to be.
The importance of having other men in your life, getting people who will hold you accountable and having a daily self care routine.

The wake up that men have been looking for

To keep it short and sweet just take a look at the podcast already.

Tune out to the societal noise and open your mind and I’m confident you will spend your listening time nodding your head.

I did.

Powerful and Insightful Content

I love this podcast.

There’s always so much to take away from each episode. Real, actionable advice and tips.

Joe has a wonderful way of interviewing his guests, and makes it about them - not him. A very important trait, as many hosts like to flip the conversations back about them.

The Boy Wonder ,

Informative and relatable - glad I found this

The Guild of Dads podcast is easy to listen to, has some great guests and has made me realise I’m
not on my own. So many resources out there for mums but finally one for us dads!

Joes simply vision of Vision+Action=Meaning really works. I tend to listen at the end of a stressful week and this really helps me out things into perspective. Thanks Joe!!!
