HitchPod Rewatch Countdown, The 39 Steps v Mutiny on the Bounty
We continue our look at the 11th best Hitchcock movie according to our listeners, by comparing Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps to the Oscar’s Best Picture of the same year, Mutiny on the Bounty.
We also discuss school houses, rum rebellions and the delicious, McGuffinesque flavour of breadfruit, before revealing the 10th best Hitchcock movie via the still quite improbable medium of cryptic crossword clue.

The Prestige (Magically Transported From Behind The Paywall Edition)
Uh-oh! What’s all this, then?
We just went to edit the Mutiny on the Bounty vs The 39 Steps episode and discovered that most of Cat’s audio was missing. We won’t get a chance to rerecord that episode until next week, so, to hold you over until then, we’ve decided to release one of our paywalled What Would Hitchcock Do? episodes. It’s The Prestige (2006). Enjoy!

HitchPod Rewatch Countdown, The Lady Vanishes v Bringing Up Baby
We continue our look at the 12th best Hitchcock movie according to our listeners, by comparing Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes to a zero-Oscar nomination film of the same year, Bringing Up Baby. (We already covered the Oscar winner that year in our rewatch of Young And Innocent.)
We also discuss absurdly named millionaires, the ridiculous ease of 1930s car theft and George Bush memes, before revealing the 11th best Hitchcock movie via the still quite improbable medium of cryptic crossword clue.

Customer Reviews
I’m an addict!
‘HitchPod’, a podcast hosted by Cat Jones and Dan Liebke, is an absolute utter triumph. It is the only podcast that I have ever loved enough to loyally follow and eagerly await more of, rather than just dipping in and out when I fancy (as with most other podcasts). The format is one of watching a Hitchcock film every month and the pair discussing it, ranging from their own personal opinions to specific Hitchcock Movie Checklist items, such as the MacGuffin and cameo. Cat and Dan pour their heart and soul into every episode and the atmosphere in general is so friendly and relaxed. There’s just enough talk about camera angles and film history to keep film buffs happy, but otherwise it feels like two mates having a chat about a mutual love of Alfred Hitchcock. A must for any Hitchcock fan, but equally brilliant for newbies.
You will particularly enjoy their bonus Patreon episodes in which they Hitchcockify (their own made-up term) a non-Hitchcock film, including classics like Bridget Jones’s Diary, Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean, Titanic, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Pride and Prejudice, amongst others. Worth every penny.
Marvel fans will also enjoy their attempts to tie every film into an ingenious “Hitchcock Cinematic Universe”, in which every film is interlinked and takes place in the same world. There’s even a website devoted to it. Genius.
Last but not least, another USP of this show is that it is hilarious and very down-to-Earth. “Jamaica Inn” was my first episode, and I’d personally recommend starting with that one because it is a perfect example of the pair’s trademark humour. Classic. Could not recommend enough.
I present
Late to the Party with this podcast but I find these two presenters fun to listen to on my favourite film director of Hitchcock. I like the format each episode and the way they talk about each film with facts and, opinions and a few fun tests thrown in for good measure. I particularly like the alternative Hitchcock universe and the tropes. It ranks higher than a few other podcasts I listen too and that concludes my review.
Great!
Very good podcast. Refreshing amongst so many that ends up concentrating on the hosts rather than the actual content.
