3MP Breakfast announcer Jon Vertigan has been in the radio industry for 29 years.

But before he got in, he was a 'prize-pig'. That's industry talk for someone that regularly phones in and wins radio contests.

Each episode, Jon will flash back to the late 80's and replay actual audio of him winning radio contests. Then, some 30 plus years down the track, he will track down the announcer who gave him the prize, to apologize to them for being a 'teenage prize-pig'.

In this final episode of Season One, I catch up with and apologize to an announcer who was and still is the closest to me.

My Dad, John Vertigan (Senior) was a big name in Melbourne radio.

While I was pestering radio stations and winning prizes, he was holding down the busiest and most difficult gig in radio. Sports and racing co-ordinator at 3UZ.

    Rob Elliott

    Rob Elliott

In 1990 I discovered a style of radio that I hadn't been exposed to before. It had been done before, but I hadn't heard anything quite like it at my young age. Rob Elliott hosted nights on Bay Fm Geelong, who were simulcasting through 3XY Melbourne. Quite a different episode this one, because I wasn't really a 'prize pig', more of a 'contributor pig'.

All will make sense when you hear it!

    Nigel Ross

In 1988, 3DB turned into 3TT. It was Melbourne's 'Classic Hits' station. It was another target for my teenage prize piggery.  Gavin Wood and Geoff Cox on breakfast. Carl Magrin during the day, and my guest this week is drive host Nigel Ross. I chat with Nigel about life at 3TT and TTFM, and his life after radio. He may not be on the air as an announcer anymore, but his fingerprints are everywhere!

3XY was a powerhouse in Melbourne.

It gave us Rocktober, Hot Hots, the XY Zoo, and Chart Attack.

This week I play Chart Attack and a host of other games with night jock Dave Ferguson.

    John Peters

    John Peters

John Peters was an institution in Melbourne in the 80's and early 90s.

The Top 8 at 8 was unmissable each night, and to win the 'Top 8 singles of the night' was the holy grail.

I was a regular, and I track down John Peters to apologize 33 years later, for being a Teenage Prize-Pig.
