Glad I found this !

Only found this after listening to Iain and Jaqui Smith’s podcast. Going through all the back catalogue. Highly recommend these. Enjoyed all I’ve listened to so far especially John Knott’s & Kevin Keegan.
Just listened to Damian Barr interview. Thank you for introducing me to him and his books !

Excellent

I have just recently found out about this podcast and started listening. They are excellent. Dale has that rare quality of being able to disagree respectfully and not get bogged down in probing miscellaneous points.

Unexpected golden nuggets

I’ve just finished listening to Iain’s interview with Johann Hari focused primarily on his book related to the causes of depression.

I almost skipped this one due to the subject matter and planned to listen to the first few minutes and then skip to the next one in my backlog. However I’m so pleased I didn’t.

The first 1/2 of the interview is focused on promoting the book, which Johann does very well, no doubt thanks to great coaching by his publisher.

But the golden nugget for me was the last 10 mins where they swerve into an apparently unplanned aside on the underlying causes of the political issues in the US & UK (and in my view also in France where I’m living) and how the underlying causes of how the “dispossessed” live (and now vote) can be traced back to our society’s dependence on chemical solutions to social issues.

THANKS!

Ps to the podcast editor, please drop the volume a notch on the “ident inserts” which blast out unexpectedly loudly at random moments. V painful :-)
