I came across Ross Sutherland’s ‘Imaginary Advice podcast’ via ‘The Changing Sound of Radio’: the sort of immersive three-hour R4 Extra docu-info-feast-binge that I crave much of my headphone-based time. The complete Imaginary Advice episode, ‘Six House Parties’, was part of it, and it completely stopped me in my tracks. It was so completely poetic, and funny, and immersive and gradually darkening, and darkening, and darkening... I’m loathe to compare - because Ross is clearly brilliant in his own right, but if I must (and because I have no imagination) it had the woozy nocturnal-ness of Blue Jam, and the poetic sense of adventure of Ken Campbell. But oddly it also made me think of This Life, and some Will Self things as well. All good in my book.

Simply a great podcast.

This podcast is just fantastic! It's been wonderful to see the series and Ross' storytelling/audio production grow over the last few years. In a podcast world overflowing with interviews and 'blokes' talking about football it's a rare treat to find a producer commited to bringing their listeners something original and, most importantly, varied. Ross has an annoying knack of being able to develop a theme and identity across a series while producing a series of programmes listeners are able to dip in and out of. Give it a try!

This is the one I go to when I'm 'podcated out': an incredible mix of stories and weird sutff that never fails to delight. It's too engrossing to do on whist doing anything that needs mental input and so best saved for commutes etc. Can't recommend it highly enough. Really can't
