    Aimee

    Aimee

Today, Ali talks to Aimee, the founder of @iwassupposedtohaveababy about Infertility in the Jewish community. Inspired by the questions, "Why in the Jewish community is this so closeted?" and "Why is no one talking about this?" Aimee, a member of the Orthodox Jewish Community, started her organization in 2019 to help others in her community feel less alone. Aimee explains how in the Modern Orthodox Community, she tries "to straddle the modern world while still upholding the ideals and basic tenets of the religion," and also talks about her unexplained secondary infertility, how she lost 4 pregnancies at 16 or 17 weeks, and how, finally pregnant with her final two babies—twins—she suffered from panic attacks and PTSD. "Hearing, 'There's no heartbeat,' just changes you," she says.

    L'Oreal

    L'Oreal

Today, Ali is talking to L'Oreal, a Chicagoan with a journalism background who has written about her infertility in such publications as Self and Hello Giggles. L'Oreal talks about "being in the messy middle right now" —and how, even though she doesn't know how her story is going to turn out, she wants to share anyway. She discusses how isolating infertility can be, especially in the black community,

how having a "plan" rarely works out, her history of fibroids, how infertility has affected her marriage, and how IVF is a full-time job. L'Oreal also explains the shame that black women feel and their hesitation to speak about infertility, how the face of infertility is usually a "thin white woman," and how medical treatment is different, depending on what you look like.

    Ellen

    Ellen

Today, Ali is talking to Ellen about addiction and infertility. Currently sober for almost four year, Ellen talks about how not being able to "drink like a normal person" became a problem, especially once she started navigating the rocky waters of infertility. Ellen talks about taking Clomid, the awkwardness of timed IUIs, getting black out drunk every night and how her husband hired a divorce lawyer, ready to end their relationship. She also talks about going to rehab, how the baby onesie she brought with her helped her get through her in-patient stay, and how, later, and thanks to IVF, she finally became pregnant with twins.

    Ruth

    Ruth

Today, Ali talks to Ruth Corden, "Finding the Funny" podcast host, infertility advocate and IVF warrior who is now living Childless Not By Choice. Ruth talks about her 8 year infertility journey, including miscarriage, loneliness, mental health, her siblings, (including her sister Ange, who she hosts the podcast with, and brother, Late Late Show James), and how she loves being an aunt to their children. Ruth also talks about feeling like a failure, what happened when she found out her husband had secretly been using drugs while they were going through it all and how infertility seeps into every single area of your life.

"Let's be honest, when I die, there isn't gonna be anybody at my funeral talking about how many kids I pushed out of my vagina," Ruth says. "They're gonna be talking about what kind of person I am and the way I treated people and how kind I was and what I did for my neighbor. Nobody's gonna stand around going, 'Oh god, well, she didn't have any kids, so she completely failed at life."

Love this podcast

I love the format of this podcast - dedicating an entire episode to the infertility story of one person. It allows for a much more in depth conversation and helps the listener really understand that person’s journey. Ali is a great host, it feels like the guests are telling their story to a close friend.

You are not alone

I am going through a really hard time with infertility right now and this podcast has really helped me realise I am not alone. There are lots of journeys out there and I’m sure we will get to our result soon 😊

Amazing Job

Hey Ali.
I just wanted to say that this podcast is fab! I’m an old friend of Gail’s, so it was so lovely so hear her story through your gorgeous conversation. I’m also going through my own infertility journey, for the last six years, countless IVFs, and currently moving to donor eggs... there are so many amazing podcasts out there now that are dealing with this and I’m honoured to add yours to my list 😘!
Wishing you so much luck and good wishes with it all!
