Veterans In Politics Episode 7 with James Sunderland MP

James shares the illustrious title of 'most senior military veteran in the House of Commons', alongside Bob Stewart DSO MP, having left the army in 2019 as a Full Colonel. He served for 26 years as a Regular officer, only leaving at short notice in November 2019 to stand as a Parliamentary candidate.

In this episode, James reveals the story of his remarkable last-minute entry into politics following the calling of a snap election, and an amusing anecdote about who he was to first meet on the doorstep out canvassing as a new candidate.  You've got to hear him tell the story!
James's operational service includes tours in Iraq, Bosnia, Africa and the Falklands.  More recently he served as Commander of the Army Engagement Group, responsible for high-level engagement with Ministers, MPs, Lord Lieutenants, High Sheriffs, Councillors and societal gate-keepers on behalf of the Army Board.  Fittingly, his constituency includes the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst!
We'd like to thank James for taking the time to talk to Jonny in this episode.  It is fantastic that the armed forces has a great ally in James as one of the newest veterans in politics!
