Dr. Roosevelt Griffin III is the Owner and Operator of GI Music LLC, specializing in curriculum, program, and professional development. He is the Founder and CEO of the Griffin Institute of Performing Arts (NFP) where the transformative abilities of the arts are used to transform the lives of students and families throughout southern Cook County and beyond.  In addition to the organizations that he lead, Dr.Griffin serves as band director for Harvey School District 152 and Chicago Jazz Philharmonic's Youth ensemble. He is also co-director and student mentor for VanderCook College of Music's One City Program.

Steve Wiest is a multiple Grammy-nominated trombonist, composer, author, and cartoonist. The former soloist and writer for Maynard Ferguson, Steve went on to perform on the road with Doc Severinsen and the Old Tonight Show Orchestra as well as many other artists. Steve has numerous recordings out as a leader, the most recent of which is the debut album from the critically-acclaimed all-star horn band Vinyl Hampdin. Along with being the trombonist with the group, Wiest has composed and arranged all eleven tracks for their new recording titled “RED.” Joining Steve in Vinyl Hampdin is an all-star assemblage of Grammy and CCMA winners: Lisa Dodd, Frank David Greene, Brad Leali, Shelley Carrol, Stockton Helbing, Ryan Davidson, Eric Gunnison, Art Bouton, and Bijoux Barbosa.

In the world of jazz education, Steve was formerly the Director of the One O’Clock Lab Band at The University of North Texas and is now Co-Chair of Jazz Studies at The University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music where he teaches arranging, composition, jazz trombone and directs the award-winning Lamont Jazz Orchestra. In high demand as a clinician, composer and conductor, Wiest has directed many all-state ensembles and appeared as a guest artist and clinician all over the world.


Steve Wiest is a clinician for Edwards Instruments and plays the custom “Excalibur” version of the T302 and the Griego-Steve Wiest Mouthpiece (gold plated) exclusively.

Tony DiPasquale is the Director of Bands at Central and West Junior High in the Belleville 118 school district in Illinois. He has also published The Jazz Lictionary, an instruction book on jazz improvisation techniques. DiPasquale earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Millikin University and a master’s in jazz piano performance from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member for the jazz studies program at McKendree University. In 1999 he founded the Sunday Night Jazz Workshop, a school for advanced junior and senior high school students to study jazz improvisation and performance practices.

Dr. Joel Vanderheyden is a versatile saxophonist, composer, and educator with tremendous passion for the unifying power of music. As a performer, he draws upon his study of jazz (M.M. with Chris Vadala) and classical saxophone (D.M.A. with Kenneth Tse), immersing himself in a variety of musical situations, ranging from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to the cinematic electro-jazz group, Koplant No. He is also a regular member of both the Jazz St. Louis Big Band and the Missouri Saxophone Quartet, and has performed on stages in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Scotland, Croatia, and across the United States, spanning large festivals, intimate jazz clubs, rock venues, live radio performances, and some of the world’s finest concert halls. Vanderheyden is the recipient of a grant from the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, and his debut album of original compositions, Complete Life, was selected as one of the top albums of 2009 by KCCK Jazz 88.3FM. He has both performed with and written music for Strings of Arda, a chamber group from the St. Louis Symphony, and was named a quarterfinalist for the 2018 GRAMMY Music Educator Award. Currently, Dr. Vanderheyden serves as Professor of Music and Director of Jazz at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO, and teaches Applied Saxophone at Washington University. He maintains an active schedule working with high school and college students across the country, and is a performing artist/clinician for D’Addario Woodwinds and Selmer Paris Saxophones.
