The Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow was officially opened by Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond MSP on 4 October 2011. In attendance were Li Ruiyou, Chinese Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Scotland, Xiaogang Tian, Minister Counsellor for Education, Chinese Embassy London, and a delegation from Nankai University.
