    Legacy... Margaret Thatcher

    Legacy... Margaret Thatcher

Afua Hirsch and Peter Frankopan tell the wild stories of some of the most extraordinary men and women ever to have lived – and ask whether they have the reputation they deserve.

Should Nina Simone’s role in the civil rights movement be more celebrated than it is?

When you find out what Picasso got up to in his studio, can you still admire his art?

And in their most recent series, they take a look at Margaret Thatcher. Was the Iron Lady an inspirational figure, or the architect of a broken Britain?

Legacy is a scripted, structured podcast (detailing key scenes/moments of the subject’s life story e.g. Napoleon), balanced with free-flowing conversational pieces between the two hosts.

Search Legacy now, wherever you get your podcasts, or binge the entire season ad-free on Amazon Music.

Authentic

Rachel Reeve struck me with a very rare thing these days in politics authenticity ! A genuine and core belief of making things better for the majority of this country . Her ego did not get in the way of why and how she would do the job no need to perform I want a politician who knows what they are doing we have had enough of performance politics … the fact that she is a women is secondary but heartening , professionally competent inspiring and immensely reassuring .

4* for podcast, 1* for Reeves

Blown away by how unimpressive Rachel Reeves was. I tuned in very keen to be impressed as, regardless of who you vote for, you want the next government to have a plan and have some gravitas. She displayed neither and got defensive at the slightest probing, falling back on jibes about the Tory record and how great Labour were in 1997 when faced with the simple question, ‘what are you going to do?’. It was the first time I’ve ever heard Alistair challenge a Labour figure in any way too which was nice.

Rachel Reeves

I think Rory just helped out Reeves by stepping up with some more direct questioning, otherwise the interview might have been a bit dull. I (half) listened to her Mais lecture a while ago but nothing she said is memorable to me. The debate re free trade and countries specialising (I'm thinking David Ricardo) vs protectionism and a more robust economy less dependent on China is actually interesting. In general I think she did a good job in this interview and hope she's very successful if she becomes Chancellor.

Anyway I just bumped up my rating to 5 stars for this podcast. I think it's difficult to run an interview with two interviewers... can be even easier to talk over and drown out the interviewee but I think these two are improving.
