Ep. 62: Jealousy and Life Milestones - What to do When The Green-Eyed Monster Hits

Ep. 62: Jealousy and Life Milestones - What to do When The Green-Eyed Monster Hits

There are so many milestones throughout our twenties, which we are conditioned to think that we ‘need’ to hit. Degrees, moving out of home, partners, engagement, marriage, babies, promotions . . . it’s a LOT!

It’s normal to feel pangs of jealousy as your friends, or people you know (or even people you don’t know!) achieve certain things.

Whatever the circumstances, jealousy is not a nice feeling, and today we are exploring how we can navigate feelings of envy. And how can we reframe our jealousy in a more positive way?

On the flip side, what can you do when you feel like your friends are being resentful of your successes?

As always, feel free to leave us a comment on our Instagram account and share your experience with us! We’d love to hear from you.

Lauren Graham - Talking As Fast As I Can. The except that Ella shared:

“But life doesn't often spell things out for you or give you what you want exactly when you want it, otherwise it wouldn't be called life, it would be called vending machine.”

5 Practices To Give You Hope Through Infertility on The Glitter Guide, by Kara Stout and the excerpt that Ella shared:

“Having unmet expectations gets me every time. I’m working on this. I have to let go, I have to accept when things don’t go according to my plan or timeline, and I have to make an effort to still be happy regardless of these circumstances. Don’t get me wrong. I allow myself to cry and be sad. It’s OK to be heartbroken, it’s OK to cry and not want to get out of bed for a day. Allow yourself those emotions. But, I encourage you to then take the steps you need to move forward in hope again. A good friend once said to me that instead of considering when it’s the best timing for me, consider the timing of when the child is supposed to come into this world, the friends he/she will make, the schools, the time period they are supposed to be on this earth. This, for me, helped a lot in accepting that it’s just not my time.”

How To Reclaim And Reframe Your Milestones on The Elgin Avenue blog. The excerpt that Monica shared:

“This is your life and your milestones to set.
I truly believe that you will feel your happiest, when you follow your own life’s course. Those milestones that make up other people’s journeys are theirs, and the likelihood is that their personal recipe wouldn’t make you happy anyway.
Next time you are tempted to look sideways at anyone else’s journey, catch yourself and look straight ahead at your own.” For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
