How do you live a good life?

If you are interested in people and their journey through change and challenge, then you are in the right place. I choose my guests because they have a story and look like they have some answers.

Our conversation is based on just 5 questions. But that is the route and direction for a life well lived.

    Working Towards Accountability and Trust

    Working Towards Accountability and Trust

Welcome to the latest bite-sized episode of Life, Passion, and Business with your host, midlife coach Paul Harvey. In today's reflection, we delve deep into one of the most pivotal aspects of life - Commitments. We seek to understand how we condition ourselves to meet or break commitments and explore potential routes toward greater personal accountability.
In connection to coaching, we gauge the degree of commitment to desired actions on a numerical scale, which ultimately is a reflection of the energy we're willing to put in to accomplish the goal. The struggle comes when we fail to meet these commitments. The idea is not to harshly chide ourselves, but to seek a rational path through to get things done.
While discussing commitment, we touch on the importance of managing promises made to children, who are yet to understand the intricacies of promise-breaking. The key lies in being conscious of the promises we make and ensuring not to create an environment of broken trust, particularly with children.
The conversation evolves to discuss types of people who meet their commitments at all costs, and others who struggle to do so. Both extremes can lead to instances of ridicule, and somewhere amidst this, we aim to tread the middle path where it's acceptable to relish successes but also come to terms with difficulties encountered.
When we don't meet our commitments, it's essential we maintain honesty with ourselves and inform those affected in good time - it serves the dual purpose of respecting their requirements and affirming our integrity. Particularly when we break internal commitments, it impacts our trust in ourselves, causing us to question our capabilities.
The solution lies in setting micro-commitments, enabling us to gradually build faith in our abilities without overwhelming ourselves. Repeated successful completion of these commitments reinstates our internal trust, proving we're capable of meeting and being accountable to self-set goals.
This enlightening discussion attempts to shed light on commitment, accountability, self-trust in the context of personal evolution, and the journey toward self-improvement. If these reflections resonate or if you've found this episode insightful, kindly share it with a friend, as that's how we grow our versatile and inspiring community.

Scott Stokely: Between Thought and Implementation

Scott Stokely: Between Thought and Implementation

I have been so looking forward to sharing this conversation with you, as my guest on the show today is a professional Frisbee player. It just makes me chuckle. In this show we discuss the gap between thought and implementation, fear and failure and the evidence that life always works out. People like to live by specific rules. One of them is that we have a place to live, somewhere to call home, sleep, and store our things. But who said that was a rule?

Could you live a nomadic life on the road, travelling from city to city and living in hotels? That is the life that my guest, Scott Stokely, has chosen. As you heard in the intro, he made that decision when he was 19. Now in his 50s, he jokes with me that he is probably the most well-off homeless person I will ever meet.

Scott Stokely is a professional disc golf player. When he started in the sport 30 years ago, it was in its infancy. He left home and set out to become a professional player with no plan B. The conversation is so unique because he has always jumped into things.  Scott is an entrepreneur—and a good one. He has always had innate confidence in himself and the knowledge that it would be fine, and that is how the world works. For Scott, failure is just information and means adaptation is needed.
“I will be fine wherever I am. If I fail at something, I will just do something else and that will be fine.”   He explains how he turned his hobby into a profession and invented the funding model that most professional disc golfers use today. He also wrote the first book on disc golf techniques. This is a discussion about freedom opportunity, and Scott shares his business and life model that anyone could replicate.

Adam Duran : Are You On Purpose

Adam Duran : Are You On Purpose

I have been mired today, trying to compress a fantastic two-hour conversation with a US Presidential Candidate. I kid you not. He is very funny and may even get a few votes come November. Having run out of time, I am sharing this show with Adam Duran. I mention Focus coaching and tools to get you moving on the show. The link to focus Coaching is here. Do book a free call; it will move you forward.https://lifepassionandbusiness.com/focus-coaching/   Adam Duran : Are You On PurposeAre you on purpose? Our story today is about finding a purpose and living it because sailing the waves of life without direction or a rudder is an arduous journey.
My guest with me today is Adam Duran. He was the youngest sibling in his family and always felt like an underachiever. That failure pattern was repeated at and on into high school, where trouble became his middle name. He left without graduation, and his life was on the road to nowhere.
As always, with these stories, the universe offers a hand. During his high school years, Adam’s father rediscovered his faith and encouraged the family to attend church.
So at 18 and out of school without graduation and life looking so bleak, somehow church called him. That right, this tearaway lad was called to theological college, and he had a plan, and it was ministry.
It is fair to say that plan that did run straight, but it was an adventure. Adam built a life that his 15-year-old self never thought was possible. While at college, he met a girl, and they had a child. He got a job in law enforcement as she became a drug addict. Yes, it has all of the twists and turns of a good TV drama.
    Living Life On Purpose
Our conversation is lively and passionate about how his faith was tested and how he came through the tough times. It is also about living with meaning and purpose and getting what you want. For Adam, it was always about being on purpose and focused. With hindsight, he can understand why his original plan for ministry became a 30-year career in law enforcement career. Because it was where he could be the most effective minister. It was about supporting those whose lives had begun like his but did not have the breaks that he had.
Adam is now retired from law enforcement, and he has moved into his second career as an Author, writer and speaker. He has taken his skills from ministry, law enforcement and fitness and written a book called “Live Life On Purpose.”

    Shortcast : Reaction or Response

    Shortcast : Reaction or Response

Reaction or response: I opened the car door, and the harsh words were out of my mouth before I knew it.  His response was just as intense as mine. Did I get out of the car?
On this show, we are talking about reaction or response. The course of life is a flow with ups and downs, situations, problems, and solutions. Now, we can live, breathe and move with the flow or fight against it.  But, of course, that is more challenging than it sounds. Living with ease and flow takes some practice, but if we can respond with clear, fresh thinking, love, compassion and ease. The depth of any problem with an emotional charge is significantly reduced.
So, how do you react to life’s ups and downs? Do you give a measured response, or do you react, and how deep is that reaction measured, or do you go full nuclear? There are people in life with short fuses; thankfully, I don’t meet so many of them these days.
The situation above was an overreaction of mine in a petrol station to a driver who had pushed into the queue for fuel. It was not my finest hour, that’s for sure. Had it not been for my wife’s calming words and touch, I may have got out of the car, and life may have taken a different turn.
    Do You React or Respond
In this show, we look at the reaction or response and how we might choose a response over a reaction.  We also consider the impact of reaction in other areas like social media. Out of interest, have you ever had a change of mind or opinion following a tense interaction on a social media post?
That is the point: reaction might win the battle but rarely changes minds. Here is the link to Wikipedia and Amygdala hijack

Roberto Capodieci : Software Pirate to Blockchain Innovation

Roberto Capodieci : Software Pirate to Blockchain Innovation

Innovation and entrepreneurship have been the themes of Roberto’s life. He has always been fascinated by cutting-edge of technology.
Roberto Capodieci was born in Italy near Venice and was a natural entrepreneur from age 5, making and selling stuff to buy more toys.Elementary school bored him, so he dropped out he never went back, taking charge of his education and studying everything from business management to computer programming.
He did not attend college officially, although he sneaked into lectures that interested him.
At age ten, he started a computer and electronics club. It became a business when he was 14—he started as a software house selling thousands of pirated computer games. At the time, there was no law to prevent it. With so many callers to the house and so much cash, his parents thought he was selling drugs. While not true, it created a reputation that led to a surprising opportunity with law enforcement. The business moved from pirated software to optical archiving of documents using the first Apple computers.
    The credibility of age
By the time he was 19, he was the head of a large company employing 50 people. He had to employ older people to get the credibility of age. As one so young, he would pretend to be the janitor cleaning the floor so he could listen to his salespeople negotiate the deal. Our conversation is rich in stories as he has worked in many countries commercially and as technical support in law enforcement environments. He even knocked on the door of the FBI and asked if he could help.Roberto has 40 years of business behind him. It has always been about technology and innovation, so unsurprisingly, he has been instrumental in laying down the foundational aspects of blockchain applications, ensuring their relevance and applicability in various sectors.
    Innovation and Blockchain
His contributions extend beyond the technical aspects, as he actively educates others, sharing his knowledge through speaking engagements, publications, and mentorship. On this show, we glimpse what is possible with decentralization and how it could protect everything from the food on your plate to life-saving medicine.Interestingly, he started his business on pirated software, and today, as an advocate of blockchain, he is at the forefront of preventing Piracy.
