Episode 171 – P2P Lending on Lonvest with Roman Katerynchyk

In this episode, Jean and Joe interview the founder and CEO of Lonvest, Roman Katerynchyk.

We dig into how P2P lending for consumer loans works, and what kind of models power the decisions to give loans or not to new customers. We discuss the ethical side of P2P lending, and the big issue with millions of unbanked people in developing countries.

    For example:

44% of Vietnam's population was unbanked in 2022, but a higher percentage remains under-banked.

Only 6% of the population in Vietnam have credit cards.

We also talk about how Lonvest works, why Roman started this new business after many years in the fintech and traditional consumer loans space, and what comes next for the platform. Roman also explains how Lonvest is differentiating itself in the market and bringing a new level of transparency to the game.

Essential Listening

There has been an explosion of startup and entrepreneurial podcasts, the quality varies greatly, but this new one goes straight the top of my list, alongside Startups for the Rest of Us.

James Laws and Jean Galea, each already highly-regarded in their own fields, both have deeply considered perspectives, but their approaches to life and business are different enough to generate some very interesting discussions. I have picked up useful ideas in each episode so far.

The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and fun, as you would expect from two guys who have been having regular mastermind sessions together. Both speak well and the different accents make it very easy to keep track of who is saying what. Jean is from Malta, a European island nation where English is an official language, he speaks with an accent but very clearly, absolutely fluent. James is an American, but it still possible to understand him.

Mastermind.fm is young but it is already clear that this formula has legs, I expect to be an avid listener for years to come.

Great resource

Really enjoyed this series, the length of each episode is good and the banter between the hosts is great. And the topics are relevant and good that can be applied to creating Wordpress or any other product.
