Meet Sue Cheung, author of Chinglish: Traumatic Childhoods, feeling less Chinese But Where Are You From?

    • Personal Journals

I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Sue Cheung - the author of Chinglish. Which is young adult book based almost entirely on a true story of Sue’s life growing up in the 80s as a takeaway kid, being bullied at school, harassed by customers, navigating her identity as a BBC, as well as some deep and complex family dynamics. It truly was the first book I’ve ever read which I could relate to as a British Takeaway kid and I was so honoured to be able to speak with Sue. We had a nice chinwag and gossip after the record and I just love it when you meet someone who lives up and surpasses your expectations. She was a true delight and so I hope you enjoy.
